Does your bank offer sending wires through online banking?
 

For me to send a wire transfer, I have to go into a bank branch and fill out some form with all the wire transfer info. It would be much better if I could just do it in the online banking.

Does your bank allow you to send wires through their online banking? If "yes", then what bank do you use?

most banks offer online banking, if you do frequently such transactions you should switch bank for sure. Online banking for a webmaster is a must.

I would rather this kind of transaction be done at a branch where a signature is required. Would make me feel better that a username/password compromise won't mean my entire bank account will be flushed within seconds through a wire to some offshore bank.

I know what you mean, offering wire transfers from online banking is a serious security risk if your user/pass ever gets hacked.

But still...

If my bank did offer such a service, I'd insist that wires be disabled or I'd close online banking with them. The convenience is not worth the security risk in my opinion.

Where do you live? Most allow you to sign an auth then be able to wire via fax. Not online but at least you can do it from home. Bank of America, and Bank one do this for sure. Chase Manhattan does too.

I have online wire transfers with my account, but I just have a $1000 limit. Enough to make me feel safe and its convenient.

you can take many measurements to minimize risk.

You can define which outgoing wires you want to be allowed. For example, you can have pre-approved orders for companies you are doing frequently business. You can have phone authorization for amounts higher than X and finally banks with online banking usually offer a USB keypad so you wont enter the typical user/pass, but proceed through a system with dynamic passwords.

ya it does, here in NL we have these neat e.verifiers to do all ht eonline banking... not foolproof but good enough to keep the hackers out :glugglug

I can't imagine walking to the bank for all the wires I do

with our current US based account, we cant run wires without a branch visit, which is a major pain in the ass sometimes. With our Eu banks we can do this either online at worst with a fax and copy of ID.

I have to go into the bank to do wire transfers too, but even worse, I always get the same teller and he always asks me what kind of business I do and what it's like. Fucking annoying.

About the same for me... I have switched banks once already. I like to go inside to make deposits etc but lately have been going through the drive through so I can get some different people.

I've been looking for this too and I just found out that Bank of America offers this feature in their online banking. However they limit it to a few thousand dollars max.

Probably for what reason WiredGuy fears will not happen. (so your acct doesen't get drained in one shot)

user/pass it's not the only protection of online bank accounts

usually with user/pass you can only check your account and sometimes (not always) send wire to previously defined bank account

usually for wires (or other transactions) you have additional protection

and trust me banks are very seriuos about online banking (because it gives them more money - they don't need so much employers) and they will protect you even more than normal

Wells fargo offers it through their commercial banking plan. I think there is a limit on account balances in order to be considered for comercial banking though? They also don't charge any fee's to send wires or for any of the services.
