Cable Companies Taking On A Porn Formula?

My Cox Cable bill came in and it was higher than expected...I looked down at it and noticed that they "auto-renewed" me for the NBA League Pass package I bought last year.

What the fuck? LOL

I ordered that shit over the phone and do not ever recall giving a verbal okay to renew and I had no plans on renewing this year at all.

Yeah a lot of cable companies are doing that. Reverse billing it's called up here. The biggest cable company here was taken to court about 2 years ago over this and they lost. You may not have to pay it if you did not sign anything saying you gave them permission to auto bill.

Complain?

Fletch XXX 12-15-2004 01:12 PM

auto-renew was used in mainstream for years before net billing came around.

TheDoc 12-15-2004 01:13 PM

They did that with us.. We moved into a new house, asked for our normal cable, yet they gave us Starz for free for a month. Next months bill auto rebilled Starz for us. We called and they removed it with no problems.

I'm complaining right now.

I pulled out an old bill and it was added on there as well.

The thing was I didn't pay any attention to the bill before because it is already high..but this month it was considerably higher and I noticed the pay perview was over $50 so I figured my nieces had rented a ton of pay per view movies and investigated a bit further and saw the charge.

I don't plan on paying this and if they make me I will get rid of all my services other than my internet connection and get satellite or something just in spite of them.

I am 38 years old man...do you think I don't undersand how people have used auto-renew in other venues before? LOL

I have never experienced this with Cable...EVER...especially a seasonal package.

A monthly package is completely different...I can see them pulling shit like that with a free month of HBO but not not a seasonal sports package that was ordered a year ago and expired at the end of the last season..there are many months before a new season kicks in..so this is completely different.

Don't worry man even if you have to go to small claims court you will win they violated your contract...

Doc911 12-15-2004 01:17 PM

Check your tos on the NBA League Pass. I bet it states if not canceled it will renew.

The Bootyologist 12-15-2004 01:17 PM

They are crediting me for all months they charged me this season.

The thing is I ordered the NBA League Pass for 2 years...the 2nd year I had to order it myself..no auto renewal..and this year all of a sudden auto renewal.

The reason I didn't get it again this year is because last year I was able to watch maybe 1 game the entire season so I decided then I wouldn't order it again.

Wasn't saying anything too deep either...LOL..but I think we both know what industry is more notorious for it's use of auto-renewals.

Yeah right...LOL that's who everyone despises...mainstream companies.

Fletch XXX 12-15-2004 01:23 PM

this is like saying porn is the worst with pop ups.

yeah, until you cruise a lyric or font site.

porn is the worst with auto-downloads.

until you visit a lyric site.

I personally am not saying that...but when pop ups are mentioned or auto-renewals bogus upsells etc...porn is the first thing that rolls off of someone's tongue.

Visa isn't clamping down on mainstream in the same manner it is on porn.

Nuff said...got my shit taken care of cya.

they arent?

man, there are sites dedicated to AOL billing alone

http://www.complaints.com/directory/...ugust/4/33.htm

mainstream is NOTORIOUOS for bullshit billing practices.

http://www.my3cents.com/showReview.cgi?id=7547&wrapper=

i read news about it all the time and have had companies do multiple charges for things i bought online. we all have.

visa did NOT target "adult" they targeted "high risk" and adult was not the only thing man.

SykkBoy 12-15-2004 01:47 PM

Cox loves to pull shit like that...
I had an extra $100 on my cable bill last month and didn't pay attention at first...I figured maybe they hadn't recieved the payment when it was sent out and it was a two month bill...but I checked my account and they had been piad long ago..
turns out long ago, I had an unpaid bill and they decided to just add it to my bill now....I bitched about it and they actually took it off since it was 8 freaking years ago...right after it changed from Prime Cable to Cox Cable....

BuckLover 12-15-2004 01:49 PM

lol Do you think they will have the same chargeback problems we do?:1orglaugh
