I won't comment on ProxyPass specifically,
but a couple of people did mention Strongbox,
so I should mention a couple things there.
Some of the differences between Strongbox and
other products are that Strongbox chooses
best security over other considerations when
there are two ways to do something, and the
flexibility of Strongbox.

We had a couple of design choices, for example,
where we could either make it very easy to install
or we could make it more secure. We chose
security, and we just install it for you.
We had a design choice where we could
make it more secure, but AEBN video feed
links had to be tweaked just a bit.
We chose to make it more secure.

Also we made it flexible. For example,
anywhere that other software had a configuration
variable we put a list. Instead of setting
the password file to use, Strongbox
let's you use as many different password files
as you want. Instead of having one
admin user, you can set as many different
people as needed as having admin access.
Where other systems might let you select an
email address to recieve notifications about
disabled usernames, Strongbox let's you
set several email addresses if you want.

Of course you don't have to use a password
file at all. You want to use a MySQL database for
your passwords? No problem. A remote
authentication server, AVS style? Strongbox
can work with that. Whatever you want to do,
Strongbox will let you do. In fact, Strongbox's
capabilities may give you ideas about things
you will want to do but haven't thought of,
like ithe handoff function that let's you securely
link between the members area of sites on
different servers, which various webmasters
have put to various uses.

Oh yes, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that
Strongbox is a one time fee, not a monthly service. Two months of ProxyPass costs the
same as a lifetime of Strongbox protection.

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
