Tax 1099 Forms: Do most sponsors send it out? What about non-US sponsors?

Do most companies send out 1099s? What about Canadien companies? Do they report anything to the irs?

Why would Canadian companies have anything to do with the IRS?

ytcracker 12-14-2004 01:05 PM

i just had to deal with the irs earlier this year

Canadian (and all other non-US) companies are not under any obligation to report anything to the IRS.

Then why do some require US SS or TINs? I do a lot of business with Canadien companies. I would love it if they didnt report.

Disclaimer: I will still report the income but this way there is less paperwork. :)

This is what the IRS website says:

"You are required to deliver Form 1099 to any "independent contractor" who provided $600 or more of services to your business during the previous year. Similarly, you must deliver Form W-2 to any person who was an employee last year. Both forms must be postmarked by January 31. Once those are done, you have to file "summary" forms (Form 1096 for independent contractors, Form W-3 for employees) with the IRS by February 28. "

I wish every sponsor would send this stuff out. Even CCbill and Ibill. Everyone should to make it easier on us during tax time :)

My bad. I mis-read. I read all US companies. Your right, it just says US companies on the irs site.
