For Mac's, definitely go with Final Cut Pro. A much better system than Premiere. But if you're stuck on a PC, go with Premiere Pro. Learning curve is pretty small once you get the layout down.

Anyone found a quick way to export .wmv files using Final Cut Pro. The only way I know of is by using Discreet Cleaner. This processes is a pain in the ass tho, you have to export a mpg and then take it into Discreet and export it again, which takes FOREVER...and I'm on a G5 dual 1.8ghz mahcine.

So with this said, it depends on which format you want to make for your site. If you're heading for .wmv files, go Premiere Pro. If you're making .mpg files or just doing real DVD's then I would go Final Cut Pro.

MacDaddyPlaya 12-14-2004 12:32 PM

Am I better off using a Mac for this? I have always heard Mac is the way to go for video/photo work.

billywatson 12-14-2004 12:33 PM

Adobe Premiere YO

Jim_Gunn 12-14-2004 12:37 PM

If you are on pc, I recommend Adobe Premiere Pro which I use or I have heard good things about Sony Vegas too. Premiere is EASY to learn despite what some people said in this thread. Or if you already are a committed Mac guy you have to get Final Cut Pro.

Many people like Macs for this type of work. If you are not already committed to Mac, buying the new hardware and the software apps are a lot more expensive than starting with a new pc and software bundle, but either will work well for you.

Azlord, no offense but that's not a real good way to look at it. Onen should beb able to makek good wmv or mpeg from either platform. You never want to convert mpg format to wmv if you have original footage from mini-DV tapes; you should instead export full resolution DV AVI video out of your editinng app and brinng that into Cleaner for encoding into either wmv or mpeg or whatever format.

Excellent advice.

Azlord 12-14-2004 02:08 PM

Hey jimi gun you're 100% correct. I meant say export from FC in avi format and then go to cleaner to export to WMV. The time it takes for cleaner to encode into wmv is still much much longer than using Adobe Premiere to export to wmv. Unless I'm missing something, which honestly I hope I am. I like Final Cut so much better but use Premiere Pro because of the ease of exporting wmv files.

If you think there is something I'm doing wrong let me know. I would love to try a new method to cut down the time for FC and Cleaner to export.

What I do is just burn them to CD and render in Vegas on my Windows machine....

Young 12-14-2004 11:58 PM

I purchased the whole Adobe Suite....

I hate Premiere Pro. I use the earlier versions. Pro was a waste of my money. :2 cents:

I also hate Photoshop CS. I usually do all my work in Photoshop 7 and then slice in CS and export to Image Ready CS. None of my 3rd party plug-ins work in CS.

Fuck Adobe's new CS line :321GFY

Find yourself a new cheap early version of Premiere on E-Bay. Make sure its legit and you'll be all set. Just do your research and make sure it supports your capture card.
