tons of money. most of the smaller airlines own very few of their planes, or they buy used ones. I'd imagine the costs would be well over $200million for US Domestic. I don't know about overseas.

You obviously don't pay the full price. There are ways to pay the manufacturers in installments after establishing some good credit line with them.

And a small airline will most likely want to lease the airplanes anyway.

Richard branson, the BILLIONaire that owns virgin Airlines said on Howard Stern that there's a joke in the airline biz. It was something like airlines turn billionaires into millionaires. If you were serious about it I would say the only profitable approach is a small fleet of corporate jets.

Talk with Richard Branson!!! maybe he can fork over a few mil for sum competition.

LOL I would guess its too much for you. Each plane is several million, then you gotta contract for the space at the airports, then you gotta hire a bunch of people, and pilots make pretty good money. Good luck with your venture, please tell us the name of your airline, so we know to be careful.

Shit most of these airlines today arent even profitable!

I would venture to say that a good chunk of the smaller airports/airlines are subsidized by the adjacent city/county. I know that the one in my hometown is. They have 4 outgoing flights a day, probably 30 passengers per flight at $100. That comes out to about $12,000 a day, figure in land, employees, security, upkeep, maintenance, fuel, insurance, etc. Probably not much profit, if any.
