Do you have your movies in mpeg, wmv, asf etc?? Are non-windows surfers even worth using the bigger mpeg files for? Lots of feeds I have saw are in wmv and asf. And does anyone know what percentage of their members are non-windows users? thanks

We put movies up in mpeg and wmv but We see wmv as the future. Non windows users should still be able to view wmv.

Most all of them probably were because of the streaming/ non downloadability issuesthey need.

We have downloadable WMV format in 3 resolutions. No one complains that they can't play them.

Each operation I've been involved with has used WMV, MPG, and some ASF. But WMV and MPG being the more popular. Surfers also like various sized clips available, for example: smaller clips and than much longer clips for more mouse free spank time.

I use WMV and MPG. I encode 3 versions of WMV and 1 high quality MPG version (4 versions for each clip)

So Mac users can view wmv? what about asf?

The way I figure it , if a mpeg is the ONLY way that everyone can view a movie, and if it is say 50% bigger in file size, then if 5% of the surfers can't view it then that's ok, as the extra BW costs would null out that 5% anyway

The amount of members with Apple systems is very low ... I'd be surpprised if it was as high as 5%.

.wmv and .mpeg (various size/quality for both).

Windows Media Player comes with every new PC now so its WMV's for our sites as they play straight "out the box" and no messing about with different codecs.
The quality is just as good as mpeg and a much smaller file size.
The surfer downloads them quicker and uses less B/W :)

everyone knows where they are with Mpeg's old computers, macs anyone can use.

I plan on giving my surfers the choice but WMV is the way to go...

But then some members asked for MPEG, because thay have macintosh.

We put our video clips in Windows Media 9 files.

ANyone know of a good program that can bulk convert asf to wmv?

yah, just rename them, they are the same thing.

find .asf replace with .wmv with any batch file renamer

We use WMV and Qt, MS does have a Mac wmv media player, I am about to pull the plug on the QT files.
