Do dogs have nightmares?

My dog was sleeping and then he starting shaking... I woke him up. He's fine now

ContentHire 12-09-2004 01:19 PM

Sure they dream about VISA who banned them from the web

Diesel006 12-09-2004 01:19 PM

Yes absolutely.
My dog, a big loveable pittbull, always twitches, and runs in his sleep (he doesnt get up and run but his legs make the motions). Sometimes he cries, and other times heis scared shitless. He has growled and moaned. All i do, is pet his head, and speak softly, and he gets through it, i never wake him anymore, most of the time it just makes me laugh.

baddog 12-09-2004 01:20 PM

well, I am sure they dream . . . . not sure the content of the dream so can't say that they are nightmares

xclusive 12-09-2004 01:22 PM

I think that they do but no proof...:2 cents:

NinjaBen 12-09-2004 01:22 PM

I would figure they do. They definately dream, so they must have nightmares too. I wonder what about. . .

strobi 12-09-2004 01:26 PM

yep, they dream allright... Never watched a dog sleep and chase some other dog? too funny:thumbsup

Tera 12-09-2004 01:29 PM

My lab does the same thing. She'll cry and whimper really loud in her sleep while her legs look like they're kind of running. Sometimes she'll wake herself up with some brutally loud barks that scare the shit out of me.

ironlung 12-09-2004 01:30 PM

for sure they dream, both my dog and cat get all twitchy when they are asleep but im not gonna wake them up or anything

KRL 12-09-2004 01:31 PM

Sure do. One of my police dogs even did his whole facial snarl while sleeping once.
It was hilarious. And his back legs started going too, so he must have been dreaming he was doing a suspect pursuit.

Merely 'chasin rabbits': my pup's paw would twitch while he slept. Big ol mitts flailing, as if he was running ... hence, chasing rabbits.

I twitch in my sleep chasing those squirrels, too. Fuckin squirrels....:BangBang:

WECSmaster 12-09-2004 02:34 PM

sure they do. I wonder how a dog's nightmare would be. possibly someone stealing their food or sthg like that.

maja 12-09-2004 03:38 PM

for sure! my dog has made the weirdest howling noises while he's sleeping (when he's awake he's never made a noise even close to it!) when i poke him he doesn't wake up at all. Sometimes his legs move around like he's trying to run!

hehe even my cat has nightmares...so it's probably pretty normal :glugglug

DutchTeenCash 12-09-2004 05:18 PM

sure most animals do, im sure youve seen your dog making a howling sound moving his legs etc, theyve got the same pattern, rem sleep etc etc

Semi-Retired-Dave 12-09-2004 05:38 PM

My dog does too.
I wake him up sometimes but I feel bad because I don't know if its a good dream or bad dream. You can kind of tell the way he looks at you. If he tries to go back to sleep so he can continue his dream, it was good.

johnnyhey 12-09-2004 06:52 PM

reynold 12-09-2004 07:27 PM
