The face of evil....

A company named "Cyber-Tel" is calling our members and threatening collections against them. (Even ones that have not been paying members for YEARS!)

We never authorized them to do so or to act as our agent in any way.

Anyone want to guess who put these scumbags up to this? Not that we don't already know.

Does anyone know who Cyber Tel is or have a similar experience?

Can't wait to see our attorneys and the FTC get medieval on these thieves.

ACTG

tony286 12-08-2004 05:54 PM

how did they get thier contact info

Far-L 12-08-2004 05:56 PM

Incredible what depths some people will sink to.

Fortunately... this is an example of that which does not kill us makes us stronger... here is a letter from one customer that brought the matter to our attention:

"Thank you for responding so quickly, Farrell. I'm assuming this was a business relationship gone sour, as this is what appears to be obvious extortion on the part of Cyber-Tel, and they seem intent upon going through with whatever their agenda is -- one obviously being to discredit Homegrown.

I appreciate your offer and, though I'd love to see these people
(Cyber-Tel) hung out to dry first, without anyone having to pay
anyone, I think it may be for the best to take you up on your offer to compensate them on my behalf. This will only incriminate them more in later stages of litigation (imho). I do thank you for being so concerned, obviously not only for the welfare of your company, but for your customers, past and present. I will scan and attach the latest threat they sent me, in an email to be sent tomorrow to you. I will also include all pertinent information with regard to contact for statements or otherwise. Just so you're aware, the scanned document will include all the pertinent "billing" information for which they say I'm accountable to them.

Treat all of your affected customers, past and present, like this, and they'll come back. I wish you the best, Farrell.

Best Regards,

Tim D****"

There would be only one source for that.

And we already are in continuing litigation against them. In fact we already won an injunction against them for the other despicable and unethical crap they were up to.

I am not going to name names but it should be easy enough for you to figure out. I think you can even find links to the court records pretty easily. I know Gary K. had them linked on the sex.com site but not sure if that is still the case.

Thanks and certainly agreed but this might be better to hand over to the attorneys of the FTC. This is the kind of thing they love to crush mercilessly.

lol... I should've figured that one out on my own...

Actually, if Acacia has our customer info from when we were with CE then that would not surprise me in the least.

I think they are hired by WTS that does check processing. Let's see what they have to say.

Doesn't WTS have a checkered past asa afailed cc processor?

korzon 12-08-2004 07:44 PM

KCat 12-08-2004 07:52 PM

That's awful, not only for your company's credibility, but for customer confidence in the entire on-line billing industry. Hope you get it sorted out quickly.

KCat, I completely agree. We will overcome. Anyone who screws with our customer loyalty is going to have to answer for it.

beergood 12-08-2004 11:49 PM

The big question is how did they get information on your customer base? Is this happening to anyone else? Very scary especially from a security standpoint.

Unfortunately, it will get worse most likely before it gets better.

We are in litigation with the only company that had access to our database. As I mentioned before, we got an INJUNCTION (nearly impossible to obtain) partly because we caught them red handed using our tour to direct members into their site.

Nothing at this point will surprise me.

I just can't wait for the entire truth to come out.

I have a hunch that we are going to expose a lot more cheating, scamming, shaving, lying, dirty dealing, backdoor stealing, wheeling and dealing, unethical, immoral, desperate, invetebrate scum before this is all said and done.

Trust me.

;-)

It does suck but i certainly didn't come here to garner anyone's sympathy, though I truly appreciate the supportive comments from everyone.

It would be really terrible if we didn't have the resources and wherewithal to deal with it appropriately. Then I would feel bad but as it stands we are in a position to tackle the matter head on. I feel lucky for that.

I just thank the folks that have been there for us through it all, our webmasters and loyal members.

It was asked earlier if this is happening to others. I don't know. I just know that if it is happening to us then others need to watch out for it happening to them; which is partly the reason for starting this thread.

:thumbsup

That appears to be the case. Guess this is the reason no one ever wants to go the distance when it comes to addressing these types of issues in our industry.

Whoever figured we would fold in the same way ...

well...

:glugglug

Here's to them!

Far-L 12-09-2004 12:12 PM

So no one has heard of Cyber-tel?

Dont just go after them to make them stop. Go after them for damages to your company.

As for some outlandish amount.

I think we are going to give new meaning to the term "owned".

:BangBang:

Far-L 12-09-2004 06:27 PM

I apologize. After further investigation today we realize that WTS and Cybertel are not really at fault here.

I guess I just finally snapped after all the stuff we have been through lately.

Let my folly serve as an example to all what the power of a phone call can do to sort things out at the price of a long distance phone call rather the price of a long protracted legal battle.

May it also serve as an example of going to the source in order to find remedy for the ills that plague you.

I am also happy to say that most importantly we have successfully intervened on behalf of the Homegrown members and so tonight I sleep nightmare free.
