tried to buy my daughter a BMW X5 3.0i but

I had credit problems.

Since I have almost always paid cash for stuff I have very little credit power???

Went to Credit Inform and found out there where several things on my report back from 1999 that were not mine or were missreported.

30 to 60 days I had to tell my 16 year old.

sucks, this is the first time I ever saw my credit report. bizzare.

:BangBang:

doober 12-08-2004 01:29 PM

A bmw x5 for your kid?

How old is your daughter?
are you insane?

Paco, of Large Cash. 12-08-2004 01:30 PM

B-mers rock!

the 3 is cheaper, a better off road unit and it has a much more efficient engine, thusly better gas milage.

(edit) sorry to hear about the credit prob.

boneprone 12-08-2004 01:30 PM

Hmmm..

How old is your daughter?

X5 may be a bit much for a kids gift.

Spoiled?

Manowar 12-08-2004 01:30 PM

16 year old.... 3l X5. God damn insurance, and driving tests in the US are easy nowdays. in the UK its practically impossible to insure anything over a 2litre until 21.

Roald 12-08-2004 01:33 PM

buy her a bike instead, shouldn't have any credit problems with that :2 cents:

boneprone 12-08-2004 01:33 PM

ITs a nice ride though..

Not really for me or my style though. A bit too domestic looking.

But my wife likes em.. Test drove one 2 weeks ago and they are very very nice..

She was ready to buy it, but in private she asked me if Id drive it also.. I told her no.. And off we went.

But its a nice nice hot car..

Lucky daughter..

Bring her to internext.. Maybe she can use mommys credit card and buy me some shit and tune up your credit problems even more.

EvilFubAr 12-08-2004 01:33 PM

You should check your credit BEFORE you go apply for a loan, now you lost 3-5 points just for someone running your report for the loan. And now they will have to run it again after you fix your problems. That will be another -3 -5 points

Indica 12-08-2004 01:33 PM

will you be my daddy? :thumbsup

Indica 12-08-2004 01:34 PM

ha, mommy?
at 16 I got a chevette. LOL

boneprone 12-08-2004 01:35 PM

lol just read this..

16 years old..

WTF..

Obviously you have money now days, but your thinking and spending responsibility you speak of that got you in trouble in 1999 seems to still be the frame of thinking you are in today.

Just be careful.. Earning money and having money comes and goes.. Its how you manage it that matters.

(this coming from someone betting on the blazers tomorrow)

liquidmoe 12-08-2004 01:36 PM

Wait like half a year until the new E90 3-series comes out and get her one of those, better gas mileage, even more so than the current 3-series, better looking imo, and a much better starter car thats less dangerous than an X5.

I mean bmw's are great, but with an SUV you have so much more mass that regardless, its just a bit less safe, especially considering how young she is and her lack of experience driving.

debbieN 12-08-2004 01:36 PM

I never thought to check my credit before. I have alway bought vehicles for my past businesses I was involved with.

My credit will be crystal in 90 days.

iFliPcEss 12-08-2004 01:37 PM

your daughter is indeed lucky, b-mers at 16? wow... i remember the movie "mean girls"

alias 12-08-2004 01:37 PM

Guess you can't afford it.

Speaking of insurace,

How much does it cost to insure there?

I was paying 5K to insure a 35K car when I was 18 -_-

TheFrog 12-08-2004 01:40 PM

an x5 thats crazy

debbieN 12-08-2004 01:40 PM

we looked at the following:

M-benz ML 320
Lexus, then realized the Nissan Murano is basically the same. Just like a navigator and expidition.
BMW
Ford Exploder

and many others that we just cruised the lot.

resale value
safety
making her feel good about herself, priceless.

she is not spoiled. she was getting a 1991 Ford Aerostar van before I found out that it needed $2000+ to make it safe (was in storage for 2 years).

I can afford it so wtf.

at 18, 90% of them wouldnt touch you on a car over $15k, and those who did, you'd be paying $9-10k for insurance per year.

doober 12-08-2004 01:43 PM

As rich as I would ever be, I would never buy my kid a car at 16 years of age. Nevermind an X5.

How are you ever gonna teach any sense of value and worth by spoiling kids like that?

Better get her a job then too drown her in luxury items at that age.

:2 cents:

sean416 12-08-2004 01:47 PM

damn yo, 16 yr old getting an X5, you MUST be out of your mind. Trust me, thats a HUGE mistake.

The X3 is possibly the ugliest BMW ever.

Lol, that stuff is strange :disgust

Paco, of Large Cash. 12-08-2004 01:53 PM

never said anything about the looks - you are correct ... but it is nicer than Cadarack's SUV

I agree, but we live in a free world, so he can do whatever he wants.

debbieN 12-08-2004 01:55 PM

her choice.

since my divorce a year ago (took two+ years total from the begining) my daughter has been excellent at school, does all chores without complaining, is learning Japanese on her own, has started web site selling electric scooters, in her spare time she is running to get good enough to go out for track (they need to be able to run 10 minutes straight to get on), and many other things that make me proud.

Only time will tell if this is a bad move.

Melvin the Dude 12-08-2004 02:23 PM

that backseat is gonna get alot of action!!

The 5 you can get with 400 HP :)

justsexxx 12-08-2004 02:35 PM

I'm still looking for a mum :D

Serious, when she doesn't act spoiled, is a nice and honest kid, what's up with giving her nice car? For that money I would buy another car, but that's another part.

I just hope when I become dad once, I can give away X5's :) Although the are prices are around 90.000 EURO here :)

why not

BlackCrayon 12-08-2004 02:37 PM

make sure you have good insurance. it will probably be in an accident within 6 months to a year. when kids get toys like that, it tends to make them stupid.

MandyBlake 12-08-2004 03:28 PM

God damn!
This is fucked up!
Whatever happened to the days where when kids turned 16, their parents gave them their old car.
I had a hand me down so every kid should. If they want a better car, they can save up and get it themselves!

chowda 12-08-2004 05:04 PM

get her an x3..

u should get urself the x5 :winkwink:

trogdor 12-08-2004 05:24 PM

just another brat kid in the making

get her a fucking toyota or honda, wtf are u thinking as a parent giving a 16 yr old a bmw.

detoxed 12-08-2004 05:25 PM

Hmm guess that shows why people shouldnt get into things they have no idea about, like credit.

xNetworx 12-08-2004 06:03 PM

Get your kid a BMW X5... you will pay for it. Unless you are rich, which you don't seem to be seeing as you seem to have no other option than credit, you don't want to get a kid any car over 25k :2 cents:

cool1g 12-08-2004 07:21 PM

half the people in this thread can't read - she's looking at a X3, not an X5...the X3s are like $20,000 cheaper.

and hey, her $ - she can do what she wants.

if you pay for everything in cash, you can have a crappy credit score as there is nothing for the companies to rate you with.

BaldBastard 12-08-2004 07:32 PM

I got my wife a 318 for her birthday
3 months later it was totaled :(

So she now has a 316, for my 18yr old son to drive its $1700 a year in insurance. So I got him a 2k commodore vb :))

Credit builds credit its a sad fact of life

korzon 12-08-2004 07:34 PM

seems like an awful lot of car for a careless 16 year old

Mr. Jim 12-08-2004 07:37 PM

X5 for a 16 year old? A little over the top don't you think? Driving is a privilage. I think the smart move would be to allow your daughter to prove she is a responsible driver first, then she should get the nice car.

yeah, i worked my ass off from 15-17 and saved up almost 1000 bucks and my parents lent me another 1000 to buy my first car, 85 monte carlo. sure it would of been easier to just have my parents buy the car but that was never going to happen. instill a work ethic in your kids. it will pay off when you're old and grey and have to life off them, lol.

Screaming 12-08-2004 08:50 PM

yikes hate that for you but at least you will get it resolved
