Why do some animals have to eat others to stay alive?

Seems strange, dontcha' think?

Why not live on tofu? Or the stuff that wafts out of public relations firms?

Imagine you sidle up at Starbuck's and a guy swoops down and grabs you and starts tearing your head off and munching away. Seems awfully weird. :glugglug

I don't like to think about it :( I can't watch the Discovery channel half of the time because it makes me sad. Then I feel really bad about what humans eat and want to become a vegetarian when I think about it too much. But then who can resist steak and chicken? Not me! :glugglug :1orglaugh

ironlung 12-07-2004 12:32 PM

its nature, sure its sad but im not losin any sleep at all over it

I don't eat meat and it has nothing to do with the cruelty of it. The inherent unhealthy aspects of it are nothing compared to those injected by modern production methods. And I do mean literally injected... steroids, anti-biotics. Compound that with poor after-slaughter care and rampant "redating" and you have a recipe for poor health.

I back that up with 15 years of never contracting the latest round of colds.:glugglug

?? Uh, for you religious folk: cause that is what your god had intended, otherwise why else would there be herbi & carnivores.

Plants are living creatures too :2 cents:

What we would we eat if we didn't eat any living creatures?

Nothing

Its how it works. Eat dead things or starve and die

Lawyers and politicians ... no heart (therefore no heartbeat) ... are they considered to be 'living creatures'?

I think not.

Evolutionary survival of the fittest / laziest.

Why spend all day forging for plants when you can just eat something else once a day / every few days who have spent all of the time forging for plants? Frees up a lot of time.

Look at it the other way around.. If birds didn't eat insects, you would have about 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000314 more insects each year, If the birds don't get eaten eigther you'd have a heck of a lot more of those aswell.. so just imagine if all animals where plant eaters, you would eigther get so short on plants pretty fast that something as simple as an apple would cost you thousands of $, or you would have to have plants grow so fast that you'd have to mown your lawn 4 times a day :helpme
