For The Last Time - Lock Your Domains!

For the last time... LOCK YOUR DOMAINS. It is possible to hijack with new Icann rules. There is plenty of mis-info out there, but the bottom line is it all depends on the registrars, some don't have any policy in place. Some don't even offer locking. I will not explain or elaborate.

You lose nothing by locking.
But you could lose everything by not locking.

Your decision people.

Starting 11/12/2004, ICANN's new domain transfer policy took effect and your domains may be
hijacked unless you lock them now. News 1 · News 2 · News 3 · News 4 · More Info · ICANN
"Failure by the Registrar of Record to respond within five (5) calendar days to a notification from
the Registry regarding a transfer request will result in a default "approval" of the transfer."

Solution: First do a whois (12345) check on your domain. If it shows "Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK"
your domain's locked. If it shows "Status: ACTIVE" your domain's unlocked. If your domain is
unlocked, login to your registrar or contact them to request lock. Most offer it for free and
unfortunately some don't offer locking it at all.

If you feel this is worthy of a bump, please do so to get the message out. There are more domain hijackers out there than you can imagine.

Here is another potential domain scam to look out for:

Is it ok to take people's domains that are not locked? :)

Registerfly added a bulk domain locking tool recently - sure makes it easier..

I locked mine the first day that notice came out.. one at a time. That was dull.

Oh - ::bump::

Yeah, me too. They didn't make it very easy at first either. Their admin area is a little annoying.

Let me guess, they added the BULK feature right after you finished doing it by hand. LOL. murphy's law.

Thats one of the only reasons I still over-pay on netsol. That and their advanced dns. Makes it worth the 14.95.

There are some places where it isn't free and easy to lock your domains. Yahoo doesn't allow you to lock names, and some other places (like idotz.net) actually charge you a few bucks per domain to lock them. These fees can add up very fast, especially if you have a lot of names.

So if anyone has domains where they can't lock them up fast and easily, I strongly suggest you transfer your names to a better registrar ASAP. Good places that I use and highly recommend:

Enom
NameCheap (Enom reseller)
GoDaddy
DomainSite

There are other good registrars out there as well. Just make sure it fits your needs in terms of easy-to-use user control panel, pricing, and especially security - such as Domain Locking.
