huge pics vs. video (*huge* pics)

Do surfers appreciate huge high-res pictures as much as video? Probably not, but how do they convert?

What's your experience promoting Image based sites?

NinjaSteve 12-06-2004 09:56 AM

A majority of the old school surfers (what is that, maybe 40%) have 800x600 res. With windowsXP it forces a higher res desktop. So I think that bigger pictures could do better now and in the future. I prefer images that can fit on a 1024x768 screen so that they're bigger than other galleries, fit the screen of the newer PCs with the default rez, and aren't too huge for 800x600.

If a person has 800x600 res, they probably won't know how to view the picture at a smaller size if they have their picture resizing tool turned off in IE.

How about promoting sites that focus on high quality photo content?

I've done OK with some , but others haven't gone anywhere.

I agree it's probably 'older' surfers who appreciate good photos. How do you target the 'collector' types?

I don't like huge pictures.
I keep the pictures in my members section around 700pixels on the long side.
I have had no complaints. But Tony also frames everything very tightly so that whole picture is just me...not a bunch of shitty background objects.
Also...only 20% of people who have internet access have high speed, so why have the dial up users suffer?

I like very hq pics! they rock! :thumbsup

20% sounds a bit off to me. i think its more like 40% now.

My server stats still show much lower than 40% as well as about the same viewing at 800x600

:(

That's what I had figured too.
But yesterday while driving to work, I was listening to the radio and CNN radio came on and gave that factoid. I was shocked it was that low.

I'll have to check my stats out once I get to the office today and report them here as far as that goes.

tranza 12-07-2004 08:30 AM

I don't think that that will convert better...

:(

Jake 12-07-2004 09:20 AM

If you can't see face, tits and pussy without scrolling then it's too big! Assume user screen rez is set no higher than 1024x768.

fktup 12-07-2004 09:23 AM

I was more relating huge image content to video content, so bandwidth isn't really the deciding issue is it?

If you've got the bandwidth to be watching video, you should be fine with images - no matter how big.

I'm talking more about surfer appreciation. Do people appreciate hi-rez, hi-quality photo content?

I know some people do well with sites like MetArt & Hegre.

martin_simpletraffic 12-07-2004 09:26 AM

When I first started to see porn i was always looking for the bigger pictures and assume those were better...time went by and i still feel the same way..LOL

r3ap3r 12-07-2004 09:41 AM

I don't mind huge pics as long as it hq. hq pics rock:thumbsup

kowntafit 12-07-2004 09:43 AM

I personally like large high quality pics. :glugglug

TheFrog 12-07-2004 09:44 AM

huge pics

BV 12-07-2004 10:02 AM

My theory is that if you show them little shitty pictures then they might assume that that's what you have inside the members area.

Plus you have a much better chance of getting listed at tgps with better quality larger pics. TheHun for example like big clear pics.

At least 800 x 600 IMHO :2 cents:

xclusive 12-07-2004 10:33 AM

I will be offering my surfers an option of low and high quality it's not that much extra work...

Damian_Maxcash 12-07-2004 10:39 AM

I did a couple of gals with a link to a "super high res" version under the thumb

They did ok..... but it evened out with the BW bill.... so I dont bother

NinjaSteve 12-07-2004 10:51 AM

When the picture is 2x the size of the monitor (or resoultion) I find it annoying. That's what you're dealing with when the 40% have 800x600 people.

What I understood in the last survey 20% is about right

Lust 12-07-2004 11:43 AM

I think pics 800*600 will be good, if they not cropped
