Somebody please ask Al Gore for a ruling. Since he did invent the "interweb".

BRISK 12-02-2004 03:33 PM

If you think about it, calling it the Interweb kindof makes sense. Here's why:

The Internet is simply the hardware backbone that connects computers in a vast network.

The World Wide Web is what most people are talking about when they discuss the internet though.

The Internet itself isn't very interesting without the World Wide Web.

So if you combine the words "Internet" and "World Wide Web", you get "Interweb"

Why does it bother you so much that I'm right? :winkwink:

When people first get online, they soon learn about two terms that get used a lot:

1. The Internet

2. The World Wide Web

Since the two words tend to be used interchangeably, it's not hard to understand why people would combine the two words to form the word "Interweb"

yeh, people are using the internet as a catch-all word these days, but it's not entirely accurate. But unless people know the history of the internet, it really doesn't matter anyways.

I think the "interweb" people are also the ones that believe they always have to put www in front of their email address. Like if their email addy is [email protected] for some reason...when someone asks them what their email address is they say [email protected]

The first place I can remember hearing it was in the Money Good, Napster Bad flash videos in 99 or 2000. The second one I believe with Lars Ulrich and James playing cops looking for kids downloading their songs off the interweb.
