Disable your ethernet connection temporarily, then run the wizard using "Connect using a dial-up modem."

It would be benificial to know what operating system you are running.

A couple of things to check.

1. Go into device manager and make sure that the modem is detected.

2. If it is detected, check the properties to ensure that you have the right driver.

3. Check on the manufacturers home page to see if they have an updated driver.

4. If it is plugged into com1, try com2 and see if that makes a difference.

5. If it's windows NT, I believe you can go into control panel and there is a modem icon where you can check settings as well.

6. To see if the modem is working, use dialpad (I know it's available on NT) and see if you can dial out with the modem.

Hope some of this helps. I'm heading out for a while but will check back if you still can't get it resolved.

check your services...see if Telephony is set to start and if it is started...

otherwise, just configure Telephony and you should be set..

Control panel, hardware, device manager .. disable your modem and shut it off, restart your pc, enable modem and put it on.

Completly remove your dsl connection settings.. (software)
remove the network card

Install modem and then it should work.
It canbe a real pain to use a dsl/cable connection together with dial up connection

Fuck dial-up, go live in a hotel with high-speed net access for a few days until your broadband gets hooked up.
