Most time you've spent fighting spyware?
2 days for me, it was fucking sick. Got some help from Brock over at slick cash.
Got it almost all gone now, that shit is sick. |
I don't get the shit on my laptop or desktop. I take it off all the time on customers machines though. Usually it is off within an hour. Do virus scans and spyware with 2 programs, more if it doesn't solve the problems.
|
What was the most time you've spent not asking stupid questions on GFY?
|
Would probably have been a lot quicker to reformat :)
That's what I have done the few times I have found spyware on my pc. |

3 days about a week ago. cost me alot of money in lost time.
|
like anything else, with time and experience you will know where to look and how to get ride of it.
be careful with some of that software that tells you it will get ride of spyware/addware, it installs its own then asks for money to get ride of it. |
Two days was the longest for me as well. The shit would download almost as much as I deleted during scanning. Starting up in safe mode seemed to work the best for me, that only took about 10 min to get rid of it all.
|
2 days, had to help someone who had literally managed to get every spyware, adware, trojan and virus known to man on her computer.

Spybot has an innoculate feature which works well... keep it updated and run it often.
|
i have never been infected with anything of the sort.

Spybot works nice, it was a huge help.. Some things it does not delete though, like registry files |
Took a couple of days for me a year or two ago. I'm a bit more capable now and havent had too many problems. Using firefox also might have something to do with it.

30 minutes

Ive got several hours into a clients computer right behind me as I type this (most of the time waiting for scans to complete etc.).
It probably has another good day of me fucking around with it in my spare time to get things straight. Usualy takes me a day in my spare time to clean things up. |
Just once had the misfortune of getting something installed where popups and other nonsense started raping my computer. It would actually block installation of adaware and other killers. Took a day, but it was never totally fixed. Bought a new system, and I keep that one as a database computer offline.
Edit: It all started when I clicked on a link a gfy'er had posted on this board lol |

spyware is just an undocumented feature, we did not charge you for it. |
Get the holy trinity of Spybot S&D, AdAware SE and HijackThis. I run all three once a week and the box is humming along now.
I was even able to clean up a buddy's laptop who was using Netscape "because explorer just stopped working for some reason." |
adaware se is what i use and i run it offten cause those bastards are hiding in everything these days, i got the worst one yet off a damn wedding site, can you believe that
|
i hate spyware it cost me 2-3 days to clean up all the virus in my pc.
|
Half an hour (doing the research), the rest of the time scanning my pc I did not count.
|
The first time was on my cousins pc. it took about a day and a half to get rid of everything.
Now that I know how they hook themselves into the system it takes about a half hour. Which includes running spybot, manually removing browser helpers and active x controls that installed and running system restore to put back all my home/search page links. My personal PC's have only been infected once in the last year, so not much practice recently, lol. |
I'm gonna disable spyware forever :helpme
