Explain how this could've happened in Hold'em

I just had a Full House, Queens full of 5's.

This other guy had two pair Queen's & Eights..

I only won 60 chips and he won 1600... I won the main pot and he the side pot, any idea how this happened? I had the better hand did I not?

Because his hand beat whoever else was in the side bet with him. Your hand was the best, and won the main pot. You didn't have enough money to keep betting, and therefor can't win the side pot.

Damn well that fuckin sucks. Thanks

Yeah. All about side bets. It'd be kinda unfair if you were able to win 1600 chips in a bet when you've only bet 60 while others are risking 800 and shit.

I went All In with 500 chips..

I was disconnected just before the flop and returned and the system had put me All In with my hand (luckily I had pocket Queens). Anyhow, seems screwy to me..

I suggest going into your kitchen, getting a kitchen knife, run into the room screaming that you demand the 1600 chips. You will get them!

Yeah, but if you couldn't match the other guys, you're still only in the 60 chip bet basically. Which means you risked 500 when you could have bet whatever it took to match the first bet and won the same amount.

I mean, say there's a bet on the table for 100 chips and you need 50 to see it and you've got 500 and some other guy has just raised to 1000. There's no point in you going all in because the most you'll win is that first bet. So you see his 50 and if you lose, you'll still have 450. If you win, you'll win the same amount as you would if you went all in.

At least that's how i understand it.

Sucks when your all in and you flop a fullhouse with only 50 points to play with :(

Dynamix 11-29-2004 07:39 PM

The computer put me All-In while I was disconnected, not me. I hadn't even seen the flop, and wasn't able to post the small blind.. It reconnected and I was all in lol

Orgasmics 11-29-2004 07:53 PM

When you're disconnected, "all in" doesn't mean that all your chips went into this one hand... whatever you put in the pot before you got disconnected is all that you are betting.

Dynamix 11-29-2004 07:55 PM

Damn, that could be why I was all-in with 60 chips lol.

rebel23 11-29-2004 08:09 PM

yes some software have an 'all in' protection where disconnected users will only lose/win what they already bet and not any more or less... or so I think!
