The ultimate webmaster computer
I am sick of my computers crashing all the time, the blue screen of death, spyware and trojans, having to have to install windows 2000 everytime i need to back up an unbootable harddrive, etc etc.
Please post here your idea of the ultimate computer setup including hardware and software that is ideal for the multi-tasked webmaster with no less than 50 windows open at a time. Ex. :Hardware: Harddrives: blah blah, and blah blah Motherboard: blah Memory: bleh and bleh CD Rom: bluh Monitor: bloh :Software: Windows XP Pro ICQ Windows XP Cute FTP Adaware Norton Antivirus Photoshop etc etc. |
50 windows open at once and you ask about a non-maskable-interrupt (NMI - Blue-Screen).
Simple answer is multipe computers with lots of RAM. I'll spec out a heavy duty machine for ya. Catch is, I'd want paid. Plus you haven't provided enough detail on your Real requirements. Left out photoshop and a list of software that might not work well together. In the end, not really possible to have an ultra reliable product running on a Microsoft platform. Just my opinion of course. That doesn't mean the Mac is a perfect answer either.. |
what are you doing with 50 windows all opened at the same time? Freaking a lot!

You want the fastest DDR2 bus out there (which is 400mhz now, I've been waiting for 533 for a long ass time) and 3 gigs of ram.
That other shit doesnt really matter. Get a 10,000 rpm hard drive if you want to go all out. I like intel more than AMD but when running as much shit as you do the CPU brand will not the be the factor causing it to be a success or failure. Unix would be better than XP but most webmasters don't know shit about technology so you probably dont want to go there. |
heres your solution, get firefox and have GFY open then right click the links and "open in new tab" like the rest of us do. dont lie we know what those 50 windows are from, all threads from here arent they?

A nice computer for a real playa whould be a box set up with a nice couple of scripts that build out hunderds of different free sites from templates and stored data files every day, from a vast selection of content you have stored say in couple of thousand folders of free content on two 500gig drives
after this builds your random sites, its submits them to the se's links up with all the ll's, and all you do is sit back and check your stats to see if you have 50 or 60 signups that day it has to be unix really unless you create a php script that will run under windows apache install, you can do it all for free if you have experince running nix, i personaly use red hat myself, the newer versions are offering a realy nice desktop and range of apps to once its set up, you don't really need to do anything, except building out fresh templates and adding fresh content every now and again............. |
or...

As far as multiple computers go, everyone needs a main computer in a position the least neck straining and with the best view. My plan is to have 1 very good computer and then connect a few decent computers to the same monitor, keyboard, and mouse with the use of a switch box. |

try clicking with your "middle" mouse button (sometimes integrated with the scroller) to open a link in a new tab, without having to right click -> open in new tab as suggested. |

once you switch a second computer or do a dual boot system to test useing unix(redhat is recommended for a easy install) and look at the stuff you can get for free, and actually start useing it
you will wonder why your still being ripped of paying to run windows and assocatied programs, when the same stuff is all free on unix unix and open source software is the future, best to get on board as soon as you can....... |
