Car problem anybody got any suggestions?
Anybody have any suggestions on what it might be that would be great help.
I drove my car to work today and it was fine. Later after it got a little colder I went out to my car for break and started it up. It would not stay started unless I feathered the pedal. It would bog down and die. After feathering the pedal for a few minutes the car started to heat up. It got to about the middle of the temp guage then it dropped to 1/4 mark.(I figure the thermostat opened) I let off the gas and the car stayed running and ran fine while I drove to get my dinner. After I got back I went back out to the car about a hour later to see if it would do the same thing again. It did and I had to do the same thing. I left from work and drove the car home and it was fine.(still warm from before) So what do you think this could be? The car is a 1994 chevrolet cavalier. |
sounds like the auto - choke is losing vacuum or is dirty and is stuck.

I will have to check that out. |
accelerator pump
|
my first thought was choke related.

heating up fast might be a water pump issue:2 cents:

what you need is a new car.. That should fix it.

That could be a million things man. Chevy's are well known for having electrical problems, so don't always trust your gauges.
If you take it to a shop 1st thing they will do is check your fuel system, ie filter, pump, etc. That's what I would look at. Could be an injector or two are mis-firing. If you havent changed your fuel filter, I would do that, get a tune up also and make sure its not running rich. All that you can get done for less than 100 bucks. |
When did you last have a tune up?

They have been replaced by IAC's, this could be the problem and/or some carbon stuck in the egr valve. |
If its the fuel pump ICQ me, I sell them cheap
|
Check your fuel filter and/or PCV valve, too. My friend had a problem on a 95 cavalier that sounds similar to yours, and it ended up being the PCV.
