I should qualify my claim - I'm using AOL Canada.

I wonder if internet censorship in the US is starting to happen?

This is GFY's server denying the connection, looks like an IP deny set in GFY's Apache conf file.

Why did they block your site? I heard the only way AOL will block a site is from spamming.

Wiggles 11-28-2004 02:40 PM

does AOL have any actually benefits other then being simple for stupid people to use?

The ONLY benefit I have found is if you travel a lot you can dial up from just about anywhere. Other than that they suck bad.

detoxed 11-28-2004 02:50 PM

I use AOL when I travel, so when I travel I cant post on GFY unless the hotel has high speed.

kelly 11-28-2004 03:03 PM

AOL (from UK) works fine here

and before the hate begins, I live in an arean with zero broadband and satellite, working through the UK providers AOL gives me the best connectivity so far :(

Bigjohn 11-28-2004 03:09 PM

Anybody trying to do real business using AOL should have their head examined anyways :2 cents:

Why?

I use AOL DSL and performance is top notch.

As an ISP, they offer North America wide access ports - perfect for travelling and checking out internet backbone problems from remote.

What is missing for 'real business'?

pussyluver 11-28-2004 03:38 PM

Maybe GFY blocked one of AOL's many IPs. Like when someone got banned.

nope no spamming just extortion

Furious_Female 11-28-2004 05:10 PM

Loaded fine for me [ Screen shot ]

but if GFY is blocking certain AOL IP blocks, yay for reverse discrimination :thumbsup

Furious_Female 11-28-2004 05:22 PM

oops nevermind, it errors when you try to enter a forum :warning

Fap 11-28-2004 05:22 PM

why are you using AOL?

baddog 11-28-2004 06:08 PM

my partner's satellite is down today, and she is using AOL today. She was able to access a different thread I sent her

top notch? i seriously doubt that...isn't it more expensive than regular dsl?

and I get on average 800kb/sec, sometimes as high as 1mb a sec, downloads...i have never seen aol have speeds like that

It has been happening for a while with AOL actually. They have been banning emails, etc from some of the largest activist sites on the web. It is a ban for their specific sites, as in many instances it is simply a notification to join such things as a vbulletin forum (which sends out a standardised email). Whilst on other forums it gets through (with the exact same message), with certain far left/right sites they never show up.

Wow, and we criticize the Chinese government for its shameful censorship of media and internet access.

Scary times...
