Does anyone REALLY give a fuck if the NHL returns ever ?

Fuck the players is what I say. They are making more money than they will ever know what to do with. They work thier whole lives to get to the NHL, all cry that they play this game for the love of the game... HA BULLSHIt

1st - Almost all the NHL teams are corporately owned which means if the league folds, the owners have huge tax breaks for finacial loss and simply invest thier money somewhere else. Every single arena is a multi functional arena.. concerts , other sporting events, etc.. so it will continue to generate revenue/
So do the owners REALLY care if these greedy fucks strike a deal

2nd - PLYERS are fucked. They will no longer get thier 7 figure incomes. No one will pay that overseas. SO let them sulk in the misery they have created. Let them bring thier families to a new country and bring thier kids also.
Let them tell their kids and their wives....NO HONEY.. WE CANT AFFORD IT NOW>

Solution- Owners should start another league. Lots of young prospects to be molded and brought up and taught to work in a budget that all owners could afford. If any the old players want to come back, make the fuckers try out and get paid as a rookie. Tell them this is what you make..take it or leave it.

Lots of other problems in the world for most to give a fuck if NHL returns. They are NOT curing cancer. Its just a fucking game with absolutely no meaning to society.

fuck the nhl... hockey sucks anyway

sean416 11-27-2004 10:47 AM

I care.

I dont know who's at fault, the players or the owners.. but what I do know, is I really miss hockey.

sickkittens 11-27-2004 10:48 AM

I don't care but I think hockey is one sport where the players don't need the fans regardless. It's not as intimate as basketball or football IMO.

I'm assuming you've never seen the leafs play in the air canada center, or back in the good old days at the gardens.

That is the owners' plan Joe - they are waiting to declare an impasse and then start the NHL all over again with a new way of doing contracts with the players. But it's not that easy to get an impasse declared by a judge - if the judge feels the owners didn't bargain in good faith he won't declare the impasse and the owners will have to make a deal with the players or the whole thing would just crumble into a pile of lawsuits that will take the next 10 years.

Pipecrew 11-27-2004 10:51 AM

regardless if it comes back, the sport is fucked for a while, look how messed up baseball was for a while after that strike.

Owners can file bankruptcy and close the league. Screw everyone. Players ... especially young players, will lose MILLIONS... older and vets dont care, theyve made their money

Bassab 11-27-2004 11:00 AM

Hockey's the best sport ever...it's just simply not an americain sport and thats why you guys say "fuck hockey"...pfff

Just look at it that way... why would the "best" baseball player make 20mil+ and the "best" hockey player make max 6mil + some bonuses? I know baseball is a more lucrative biz but still.. careers are much shorter in hockey and injuries are more present and severe.

Now that said, I don't support the players nor the league.. I just wanna watch NHL games.

btw I say "best" but you guys know what I mean.

The owners are the idiots who decided to pay the players the high salaries to begin with so why is it the players fault for trying to get the most money he can?

That's like joining a program and getting paid $10 a sale, when you could join another and get $20 and convert the same.

I guess that's the US perspective. I think the world is going to shit (via bush being office) and sports are a great way to sit back and forget about it all for a couple hours. Football is okay but here in canada the CFL is like watching 10th string players who dont care if they win or not. NFL is good but there's no home team here in toronto because we have the argos (CFL). Baseball is a yacht race.. wont get into that. Basketball is all I got without hockey... and it will never replace hockey.

The truth is, hockey will never lose its fan base in Canada.. it's something they can always depend on as a cushion, but the longer this strike goes on, the more american viewers will forget about it. Wayne Gretzky did a great job getting americans to tune into the game and now its all going backwards fast. In the end, I dont really care, cause if less americans watch that means Quebec City, Winnipeg and other medium sized cities in canada might get their teams back. It's tough for canadians seeing their hockey teams go to a city in the desert (and then winning the stanely cup lol).

But honestly, the owners are partially at fault here. All of these expansion teams, extending the amount of games played, the amount of travelling and driving up ticket prices fighting with each other.. and now that they've screwed it up so bad, the players are suppose to take one for the team? doesnt really make sense. In toronto the tickets to a game cost $200 a piece on average and its almost impossible to get a ticket. That's a hockey city and always will be.

yeah but dont fucking cry when owners say ok, thats enough, need to put a limit ans control what is paid out. Plyers are employeees. Owners are what the word says.. owners. SO NOW, the owners are making money with their other biusnesses and the players are losing thier multi million salaries

top players in Russia make $1 000k+ a year and they dont have to pay insane high taxes, so it dont hurt them to play at home...Similar goes for all top Europe leagues.

well if you consider putting a cap for the players where they can only make 2 - 3 million per year " Taking one for the team " well lots of hard working CANADIANS and AMERICANS will take one for the team
The OWNERS are the ones taking a financial risk here. If the owners lose 100 million in a season.. the players STILL get their contracted salary. Its like that in any biz. Like I said players are JUST employeees.

I hear ya, but what Im saying is if some team in the desert can't break even, then they should fold their team. Calgary, Toronto, etc. I guarantee those owners are making money, there's no way they couldnt. The commissioner shouldnt have opened so many expansion teams before their time. There was a lot of poor decisions that were made in order for the league to end up like this. Had the owners and the commissioner made better decisions along the way, and during the last strike had they imposed some kind of salary cap and just been better at conducting their business, then this could have been discussed before it was a strike possibility. It could have been discussed in the board rooms and meetings instead of in the living rooms of millions of families every saturday night. Yeah, the players could take a salary loss and have all of this over, I would appreciate it if they did.. but I dont think its their fault that theres no hockey right now. It's the owners fault that it came to this.

Vitasoy 11-27-2004 12:05 PM

I for one, is missing hockey badly :(

Someone please capture the games overseas and put it on BT. :(

netnut 11-27-2004 12:06 PM

nope, dont care

Furious_Male 11-27-2004 12:08 PM

No Hockey has a negative effect on the economy in my area. All those home games are huge revenue generators. A lot of people that work those games from security to vendors are taking a huge hit this year.

I hope they get the shit straight.

fris 11-27-2004 12:09 PM

i want hockey to return, but its not going to this season thats for sure.

BVF 11-27-2004 12:14 PM

Me and my then wife went to watch a Washington Capitals home game. We had a great time.

I'd never watch hockey on television but a live game is great. The fans are great and it's exciting.

But if it went away tomorrow, I wouldn't care.

Mr Pheer 11-27-2004 12:33 PM

I still get plenty of hockey. The ECHL is still running, and I still got my season tickets to watch the Las Vegas Wranglers, who now have 2 former NHL players on the team.

They only difference I've noticed between a live NHL game and a live ECHL game, is the size of the arena. The action on the ice is about the same.

Mr Pheer 11-27-2004 12:36 PM

ECHL team map, maybe some of you guys that missing the NHL games have an ECHL team near you.

The NHL will lose teams because of this as it is they are bearly holding above water but as long as the other sports are fine it's all good...

you guys chiming in with hockey sucks, have obviously never been to a live game

I think basketball sucks. If I ever go to a live game I may change my mind.

And racing sucks on tv. Any kind of racing. But I love it live.

Come to think of it, I dont like hockey on tv either.

Think I just realized something. Its the TV that sucks, not the sport.

wes 11-27-2004 02:33 PM

I have been to quite a few kings games. It is very intense. I love it.

In the 80's and 90's yes. I think hockey has changed big time. My point was that players in the NHL aren't showboaters & athletes who look for new gimmicks to be greater accepted.

I miss the NHL... ALways a good escape to kick it with a few ppl and watch a game either live or on TV... Going to live game the best also.

slapass 11-27-2004 02:43 PM

I found out we have a team here. Did not know it and we have had it for a while. I think the NHL did a poor job of letting all the teams move around. You lose your fan base that way. I played hockey for years as a kid.

I did not even know there was no NHL this year.

fantasycall 11-27-2004 02:56 PM

The really pathetic thing is that hockey overall was hurting pretty bad before the lockout. Now these nimrods are fighting over what will be a lot less money coming in once it's over.

They are all going to suffer bad and they deserve it.

For anyone "siding" with the owners or the players I'd just say this: They both created this mess (along with the lovable agents) and if you look at the average salary in hockey it is WAY higher than the teams/leagues incomes dictate.

The top players in hockey earn $9-11M / season where in baseball & basketball it's about double that and in football it's about the same. Now look at the league-wide revenue (incl. tv rights) those leagues produce .. it's a no-brainer that mathematically, the average NHL salary should be maybe $500K and the very top salaries $3-4M tops.

So until the salaries come back down to reality, this sh1t will go on for a very long time.

dodger21 11-27-2004 02:58 PM

Fuck the Union, but Bettman has got to go too. Theres a reason there havent been any talks since Sept 9. He's trying to break the union, the cocksucker. Thats not the way to negotiate. He ruined the league with his rule changes, his lack of tv deals. expansion and now this. He's doing this to overshadow his own incompetence. I hope the league does fold, or at the worst, 5 or 6 teams fold to show that motherfucker off.

FUCK YOU, GARY!

Bring it back! With no Kings games to attend, I find myself drinking and beating my girlfriend a lot more.
