Dedicated server deal - is this good?
 

I'm being offered this deal on a dedicated server, is this good? Can I get better? Should I ask for anything more or just take it? I have no idea about server maintainance, they'll be handling the maintainance -


PIII933, 256 RAM, 40 IDE HD
$800 setup fee
$150 server + $150 admin monthly fee
10 MB capped line 400$/MB
Bandwidth $3500 per month.

I know, strange time to be asking this, with my comp down. But it seems my server is down too, and I need to move urgently. When hell breaks loose, it really breaks loose.

Seems abit high...

How much should I ask for? Is capped line a good idea?

Also, try and get the setup fee waived.

I highly recomend Candid. Good people.

Might want to try and have them bump that HDD to a SCSI instead of IDE... much faster.

Should be one gig of RAM for that sort of price. Is the 3500 the bottom line and how many mbits of BW is that including? From what I make of it there are alot better deals out there. I'd not be rushing in to that deal at all. And setup fee? Pahh!

Isn't 10 MB at $400/MB $4000, not $3500?

$400/MB capped and $800 setup is a bit high and you can get a lower price.

Capped line is not a good idea (unless you like paying for bandwidth you don't need/use and your web sites loading slow).

A new IBM EIDE hard drive will work fine, I don't think you'll need a SCSI. Upgrading to 512 MB or 1 GB RAM will be a much better investment.

These two seem to be the most affordable. I am sure there are some tradeoff's somewhere but if your not doing alot of shit with your server and just need lots of BW.

10mbps / 3500 = $350 / mbps

thats not bad if its measured 95% or wutever
but or CAP you have to think at peak time you don't want to be running at more than 8mbps the cap bites in and your pipe gets clogged with resends etc so realistically your max bandwidth usage is around 8mbps and that is if you can balance things out

is this server @ maxim ?

I used to use them but they went well shit when hostcentric tookover

I still have some non-adult stuff there not had much trouble recently but then our stuff pretty much ticks over on its own without needing admin...

http://www.nysus.com is down (that's what usually happens on a network like PSI.net that went bankrupt)

I know of a few hosts that have prices better than xhostx, maybe another week of shopping around?
