Massive Multiplayer Online Games: Anyone doing this biz model?

Anyone in this biz? I'd love to hear your thoughts and possible partnership possibilities.

it's a tough market to get into and even tougher to profit from it :2 cents:

Good points. I've been talking with a consultant from Korea re the technical end. He said the technical end is less of a worry because of outsourced IT. It is the marketing/distribution. That's the huge problem. Even free distributions are still problematic.

The logistics are staggering. I know a guy who gets royalties from doing an expansion pack for Neverwinter Nights, but I don't think he's in the biz anymore.

Looks like an interesting concept what is the timeframe for completion?

The budgets to develop these games are usually reported in the multi-millions of dollars range :2 cents: and even then less than half make it to market (after years of development), including major titles backed by solid companies, and despite huge established communities of eager fans. :( Most recently cancelled: 'Ultima X' ... 'Warhammer Online' ... even 'Middle Earth Online' is looking like vaporware. The genre is clearly a massive gamble; tho IMO developers are now playing it too safe, resulting in mediocre clone after mediocre clone. The developers I'm rooting for are http://www.darkfallonline.com/ , because they've really got the right ideas re: how to take mmorpgs in a better direction (away from the everquest model) but I'm not convinced they have the funding to finish this.
