do you ever get certain emails that you leave unclicked for hours

skipping over them, because you are nervous about what they might contain?

virus or personal info?

Jakke PNG 11-26-2004 01:52 AM

No. I have nothing exciting coming to my inbox, ever.
However I try to leave the invoices unclicked, but my better side has them paid as soon as they arrive :(

Satisfaction 11-26-2004 02:27 AM

or even days without clicking them..

fuzebox 11-26-2004 02:31 AM

I do that with voicemail sometimes :)

Goatse 11-26-2004 02:32 AM

Yeah. There's a girl I used to correspond with, on and off for several years, who recently sent me an e-mail after a long period of silence. I just can't find the courage to read it. I'm not sure why... fear of pain, fear of disappointment?

there's no fear in a gunshot, only in the anticipation of it.

Since last Sunday, November 21st. I have a feeling she has a boyfriend and I really can't deal with another dream going down the drain. :(

sickkittens 11-26-2004 09:50 PM

I usually do this with bills. ;)

frankfortuna 11-26-2004 09:53 PM

I've even taken it a step further. On a few occasions, I've turned my head and clicked delete before the message preview has a chance to display.

slapass 11-26-2004 10:03 PM

I do this all the time. I doubt it is healthy but avoidance is not the worst thing.

2HousePlague 11-26-2004 10:05 PM

Who it's from has everything to do with it. Some people always say or want the same thing -- so you don't even have to read their e-mails. Some people just don't matter -- so you don't ever have to read those, except when you want to remind yourself why they don't matter. And then there are the ones to which I always give my first attention -- specifically BECAUSE they make me nervous.

Somtimes I don't even answer the door.

*shifty eyes*

Steen2 11-26-2004 11:17 PM

Yes, when it's something important that I've been waiting for a decision on, I get nervous about opening it, so I leave it as the last email to deal with.

WiredGuy 11-26-2004 11:21 PM

The ones that typically have a subject line, "you are infringing on..." or "contact us immediately..." type emails I ignore for a little bit :)

I'm using Mozilla's Thunderbird. Latest version is 0.9 and it is sweet!

The adaptive junk filter works flawlessly so far.

Highly recommend this e-mail client if you want to try something new besides Outlook.

I finally opened it and I was right. There's another guy and she's madly in love. Yet another step on the road to misery for yours truly. Now I'm trying to resist the urge to reply... "So all of our plans meant nothing to you? You just used me to boost your ego?" But hopefully the sweet sound of silence will prevail.

Now now WG, you don't infringe on trademark rights by targeting them or using them in your meta-tags/titles, do you? :winkwink:

ytcracker 11-27-2004 01:31 AM

sometimes i do it just so i know ill have something to read later when im pooping using my wireless laptop

Varius 11-27-2004 01:32 AM

I use IMP so I'm never worried about viruses :)

The only emails I just delete without opening are all these damn ccbill 'a subscription has been processed for your site' emails.....They just don't seem to end :1orglaugh :Graucho

Really though, I open and reply to my emails as soon as I get them usually. I can't stand people who don't do the same, and take days to reply to me.

i know exactly how you feel. definitely the best thing is to go the silence route, but i also know just how tough that is.

beemk 11-27-2004 06:47 AM

only when its a task i have to finish still that i plan on finishing later that day. i keep it as new until its done so i wont forget about it.

kmanrox 11-27-2004 06:48 AM

not because im nervous, but because im lazy and i KNOW when one of those emails is gonna require me to lift a finger and i'll let them sit for a day or two until i get the sporatic wind of 'get off your ass, K-Man'... and then i open them...
