does this mean that after 6 months (after the 1 month trial), Company A doesn't have to pay anything to Company B?

No, I think company A always pays $500 a month for the software. The additional $500 is paid for a minimum of 6 months. It isn't written very well.

That wouldn't hold up in court it's not clear enough I would re write it on a point by point basis...

yep, that would not hold.....

it is pretty clear, $500 per month maintenance fee, but not the one month trial, you pay the $500 a month every month after the trial, minimum of 6 months
