Tivo is fucking everyone
 

They are having advertisements op up now when you fast forward and I read 'some' things are going to be copy restricted. I don't know what they mean buy that but what are the alternatives ?


They mae the hardware cheaper but I dont give a flying shit I paid $250 for mine.

Who wants to build a better tivo with me ? lol

First thing every hardware company does, is plan for the future. Ways of getting more from that one time purchase.

Tivo killed standard advertising and there are a lot of powerful companies "encouraging" Tivo to come up with suitable alternative that fits their needs best.

windows media center box is one alternative that i'm checking out now. so far im not too impressed with the picture quality, however im on standard analog cable so it will be interesting if there is a difference in quality once i get my digital/hd setup on monday. cool thing about a media center is that you have a full fledge pc plus all the tivo functions and no monthly cost. the guide is pretty sweet and free, makes it easy to setup recording a single show or a series with a few clicks. i heard some content is protected and cannot be copies, so now im thinking about setting up a unix based pvr/dvr system. can't think of the software name but it doesn't restrict what you can copy.
