2004 Web Hosting Speed Challenge!
 

Here's what I would like to see from any hosting providers that want to put their bandwidth to the test:

1. Place a minimum 5mb file on one of your servers

2. Post a link to the file in this thread

3. GFY members will right-click on the link and Save Target As...

4. We will monitor the average speed of the download, then post our results in this thread.

*Note to GFY members, when reporting your results, it would help if you include your connection type (Cable, DSL, etc...) and location (California, Germany, Australia, etc...)

Sounds like a good idea to me. But I might suggest that the timings be taken 2 times at least an hour apart to give a more acurate view of the situation...

This is a kick ass idea. I'm looking for some new hosting to boot :2 cents:

It's a good opportunity for hosting providers to get some new clients, assuming they can produce some impressive results.

dont forget location also matters and your own ISP's routing, no matter who you host with

Not really a good test.

The internet is not static enough to make somthing like this accurate at all.
