Bill Could Criminalize Fast-Forwarding DVD Ads, Trailers
A new bill before Congress may eventually have DVD-viewers thinking twice before fast-forwarding through the ads and previews.
The proposed legislation would make fast-forwarding through those ads illegal -- not only in theaters, but also at home, NBC News reported. The bill allows technology that lets families edit out explicit scenes or material to track the DVD use. But broadcast companies have lobbied hard to keep commercials and movie trailers off limits. "Their concern is if it becomes easy for people to skip ads, then their whole business model goes down the drain," said Gigi Sohn, of a consumer advocacy group called Public Knowledge. Public Knowledge is fighting the bill and Sohn said families have been skipping ads ever since the early days of the VCR. Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, agreed, saying: "Do we really expect to throw people in jail for behavior they've been engaged in for more than a quarter century?" Media executives said that's not their goal. The Motion Picture Association said it supports other parts of the act, "particularly those provisions that will help combat the theft of motion pictures," NBC News reported. http://www.nbc17.com/money/3930803/detail.html |
The MPA are complete idiots no wonder why they fail when they try and go against the public...

haha..wow:1orglaugh
i think that is amazing....who the fuck wants to watch 10 minutes of ads. |
they are basically saying that it will be illegal for makers to not enable that fast forward block...you know when you try and fast forward on certain parts of dvd's and it says you can't....that is what they are talking about
i love it when shit is twisted by the media and sucked up by the masses |
Oh fuck! That'll go over well.
When violent criminals and pedophiles are still roaming the streets to clog even further a court system that's already more jammed than the Jersey turnpike during rush hour. And if they have their way, what's to say that they wouldn't abuse that? Commercials would be far longer than they already are. "Don't forget that you're under OATH Mr Smith. Did you or did you not on the night of November 24th skip that 200 minutes Gigli commercial before watching Bill and Ted's excellent homosexual adventures?" Yep...that'll go over well. |
it's sad how our government bows to corporations like the mpaa.

Next time you vote remember it is the Dems from CA that bring most of this shit to the floor. The studios own them.

Trying to watch shrek 2 was almost too much for me a few days ago.
I got shrek 2 and put it in, it started up and the shark tale trailer started, it looks terrible, so i tried to skip it:NO... so i 'search' through it, but i searched too far, and the damn chapter starts over. so i go through this like 7 times because im not sure when the chap ends, i end up screaming at my TV for 15 mins trying to get the title menu up. forcing me to watch your stupid ads doesnt make me wanna see it anymore. dumbasses. |
After I pay $19.95 for a dvd, whatever I do with it in the privacy of my own home is my own fucking business, they can eat a dick..
I'll just start burning rental dvd's how bout them cookies????? |
Thats crazy, if you buy a movie or rent it you should be able to fast forward through whatever the fuck you want. I see your point JaceXXX, its not as serious as the media makes it sound. But can you imagine someone being fined or put in jail because they didnt sit through an advertisement? The government and law plays an important role in society but forcing people to watch advertisements is not apart of their role. That's stepping out of their boundary IMO.
