Can anyone explain Bit Torrents to me?
 

I've been hearing a lot about it recently and it has piqued my curiousity. They say that you can download old and hard to get movies as well as old tv shows.

Can anyone explain to me how this works?

i never have a problem with completion....every file I get is finished fine

and if you compare it to usenet, it ain't that fast at all

most I get with bittorent is about 100kb if I am lucky...i stay at 500kb/sec continuously with usenet

and if you see it on bittorrent, it is almost guaranteed to be on usenet

It's a file sharing program essentially. You use it to download that stuff, and so long as you leave the download open (even after completion)... others can grab that file from you. But it doesn't just grab from a singular source... it grabs from all people who have their bit torrents open.

Once installed the bit torrent recognizes .torrent file extensions in IE... if you click on a movie or tv show or what have you... it'll automatically launch the bit torrent download program.

is there any free news server for binaries? I assume u get ur files from binary news groups am i right?

usually only new stuff works. if its an old tv show not many people are downloading the file because they got it when it came out, so theres not many people that you download it from.

silly me, I went and bought usenet for a month and cant figure out how to use it. I tried bit torrent, but my lord that was sickening slow. I have 4 MB DL, and 550 KBPS upload so it was not a problem on my end.

now if i could only figure out usenet. I was looking forward to wathcing spiddy 2 tonight! :helpme

You got aim or ICQ ? Its $16 a month and you can DL anything that is recent. I could write a 1 page tutorial and you could do it.

usenet is the best for 0-day, bt is great for finding older stuff.
