Similar prob in Australia.

At current rates $USD1000 = $AUD1265

In 2001, $USD1000 = $AUD2083

Even a few months ago you could wring about 20-25% extra from the conversion, compared to now.

If you had put $USD1000 into an AU bank account in 2001 and withdrew it today you'd end up with $USD1666, which is a 66% return in only 3 years...

If the AU account paid 5% interest (many online accounts here do) then you would have over $USD1900 when you converted it back.

Bah. :321GFY

Will it ever get nice? Thats the problem...right now im gonna limit the the money on my euro account to what i need for rent and living. Im seriously thinking about moving to a warm and cheap country where the dollar is actually worth something country and spend 6 months a years there. Im gonna spend my money there. Every dollar is spend in Holland is a fucking waste of money. Not only are the prices getting ridiculous here (especially in Amsterdam) but high euro is simply killing me.

Yup and it will get even worse real fast now. It will be 1.32 within a day or 2 and i bet it will go to 1.40 soon. Totally insane. Shit like this in our current modern society shouldnt be allowed to happen. This can and will kill 1000's of companies and put tons of people out of business. Im happy i make decent money but if i was just making enough to live this would force me to find a job.

coolfuck 11-24-2004 05:38 AM

I would like to suggest 2 solutions

1) Invest in Gold. Gold is a hedge againt the dollar - as the dollar falls, gold prices rise

2) Use a sponsor that pays in Euros (www.porngurus.com )

:thumbsup

I think a better way to hedge is with USD puts.

sacX 11-24-2004 07:37 AM

Will be interesting to see the US november job numbers in the beginning of December.. If it's another good number the dollar shorts will come under quite a lot of pressure, because it will be hard to deny the US economy is tracking well..

If it surprises to the downside, goodbye dollar..

Not sure if that's a good option.
I have a dollar account and put some $ in there when the euro was around $1.15. I thought it wouldn't get worse.
Wrong.

I read somewhere a while ago that some "experts" say it can go up to ?1.00 = $1.75.

its always tricky, but as long as its money you dont need atm its a good move, experts can say anything, we had worse things in the 70s, if you want to keep the original value open a $ account and keep it there... plus pay ppl with us$ if possible oh and im not talking $100 obviously

e-god 11-24-2004 02:46 PM

Not cool is it? Every time I go to the bank it gets closer to the day where the banker tells me the amount my cheque is worth in US dollars is less in AU dollars.

e-god 11-25-2004 03:36 AM

Todays rate - 1.31987

What do you think about his progression?

So after a week or so it will be 1.45? :eek2
