Is Attention Deficit Disorder A "Real" Disorder or.........
Or is it just an excuse not to pay attention to anything. Ive been taking these pills for ADD since something like 4th grade, now Im thinking maybe its all just a scheme to get people to pay for medicine that they are told they NEED by "professionals" in order to be "normal" And i'll be honest they do manke me capable of Now that I dont know if I want to take them anymore, its gonna be a serious bitch to get myself off these pills that they say are not addictive, I dont know it all just seems mad shady to me. Whats your opinion?
|
YES its real.
Sometimes its just misdiagnosed. End of thread |
i personally think they are bad, i mean you are taking something to change your moods, that cant be good, after taking it for years and years who knows how it has changed who you are,
some kids actually need it because they are little crackhead babies, these days doctors are giving it out more and more, easier also. anyone can walk in and pretend to have ADD, im sure if u got off them now after taking them for that many years u would be FUCKED UP. |
It's definitely a "real" disorder.
I met someone at a party that had ADD. It took me less than a minute to notice that something was wrong with him, I suspected it was ADD. Later on he said he had ADD and helped other people that had it. But I think there's a lot of hyper active kids that get diagnosed wrong. |
I don't know why its so hard for people to understand that your brain can have actual problems. It's like any other part of your body, actually its much more complicated so naturally more things can go wrong. And since your brain dictates your mood, concentration ,etc , if something goes wrong with it, its ok to assume some is going to go wrong with those aspects of your like. It doesnt take a genius to figure it out.
Ask yourself this, are people's heart problem 'real' or are they making it up? Same thing applies to the brain. |
Yeah, it's about as real as the chance of having a black disabled woman president of the United States....

Stop taking the pills immediately, it's not an illness, it's a series of symptoms some people don't want you to have. Doesn't it bother you that you've been taking pills for something a doctor can't show you with a blood test? Any kid who doesn't like to pay attention or stand in line gets doped up with mind altering drugs, it makes me sick. Now they'll be good little consumers who listen to what they're told for the rest of their lives.

i heard a more healthy diet will prevent ADD, my nephew had ADD and my sister put him on a really healthy diet and he was fine after.

You think everything you have to take medication for shows up on a blood test? |

1) I Am pretty addicted to them, I have tried to stop taking them, then I get these horrible withdrawls and start taking them again. When you have takin them for something like 13-14 years you become kinda reliant on them. 2) I dont feel like Im the same person as I use to be back in the day, Im too calm,I feel like I have taken them for so long that the pills mad me what I am today. But I have met some people who are just so overboard with energy and are so incapable of staying still that I feel they absolutely need something to calm them down, something like herb but not pills. And Im not gonna front and say they dont help me at all, but I HATE relying on a pill to make me something that I am obviously not. Just mad confusing. |

To the people here who have ADD, or think they may, honestly do you watch much TV, or did you when you were diagnosed? I'm increasingly convinced the reason so many kids have these symptoms is due to an information overload from television and video games. How can you expect your kid to sit still in class for hours on end when he spends all weekend in a hyperactive video game world?
Our brains are naturally stimulated by jolts... our brain reacts every time something happens. It's our natural instinct that alerted us as soon as cave bears moved in primitive days. In school you don't get many changes or jolts, you're supposed to stay focused without something grabbing your attention every second. Kids watching MTV and shit are constantly being switched from one focal point to another, dozens of times a minute to keep their attention. Video games are worse. I'd love to see more studies done on how this new kind of information pollution affects the undeveloped mind of a child, but unfortunately most people would rather just look for new drugs to keep the kids calm. Remember, decades ago we didn't care what chemicals were in our food, because everyone was eating the same things and no one questioned it. Now we're doing the same thing with information pollution they present to us and our kids as entertainment. |

I think they like to find a label for everything. While there can be chemical reasons for most people's behaviour I mostly believe that someone with Add is just someone with lots of energy and hasen't found a productive way to use it yet and in cases of people unable to pay attention is just plainly, they are not interested in the subject at hand.

I have to admit that I agree with what you are saying though. We live in an environment that constanttly bombarbs us with HUGE amounts of stimuli. TV, Video Games, going to the Mall, driving in our cars ( that are now coming equipped with dvd and flat screens.) I was at the Digital Hollywood conference a couple of months ago in Santa Monica. Lots of seminars by all of the Corp. VP's from Intel, IBM, Texas Instruments etc... They were all talking about how content, be it MP3's Video files, etc... are going to become much more "portable" in the near future. It will be interesting to see as we become an even more "wired" society how it will affect our childrens mental, physiological and spiritual well being. |

There have been studies where schools took more sugars out of the food and it resulted in better behaved kids. Of course we can't blame everything on the schools at all, parents need to step up and realize this. But most importantly, they need to learn that telling kids "no" is perfectly fine and a good practice to get into. |

I read a study the other day that showed as Asian counties westernize, the depression rate shoots up, even though the standard of living increases. |

As to the depression rates here and in Asia. Look at what Western Society considers the aesthetic, and intelectual norm.If you strived to be that ideal, and were doomed to failure by genetics or environmental reasons etc... it would depress you too....lol When we shape our values: Moral, Philosophical, Spiritual and Physiological, on what we see on TV, and in advertising we are doomed. :2 cents: |
