Ukraine opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko claims victory in the presidential election as some 200,000 supporters flood the capital Kiev to protest the contested poll. Trailing in the official results, Yushchenko has accused authorities of rigging Sunday's election in favor of Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych. Rigged elections ARE bad. However, neither the Ukrainian community nor 'government' are likely to be phased by any comments here. In fact, once they have settled into their latest mess, they will be sure to add this site to their endless list of 'satanic playgrounds'. Regardless of who is 'in charge', from my close personal experience (46 years), I believe the 'Ukrainian culture' (as is the case with many slavic and eastern bloc nationalities), suffers from serious social underdevelopment when it comes to issues regarding equal rights, racism and bigotry. These are 'cultural traits' which have been bred into many generations and, as far as I am concerned, this poses a far greater threat than any kangaroo government. :2 cents: -Dino |
dear dcortez,
it's not like i'm asking for a critic or , mr. polish_aristocrat, comparing with Belarus, it's a common sence to support freedom. If you think we can chat private about it let me know in icq 99469856, Thanks. |

In the spirit of free relevant comment, just as you are contesting the results of the recent election as being unbalanced, I am making the same claim about the overall picture as it relates to the election results. Supporting 'freedom' blindly and without ownership of related issues might be 'common' sense, but it is not sensible. It is part of the problem - which is my point. It seems like you may know (as do I), that the history of the Ukrainian people is tragic. They have sought national independence (with endless failure) for almost all of their existence as a culture. If you think that African Americans know the blues, just pull out any traditional Ukrainian folk song and grab a hanky. I don't believe these things happen by accident, and I no longer subscribe to the 'poor persecuted victim' mentality I was raised on. If the people of Ukraine want the support of the globe, they need to grow up as a nation - and it starts with discussions like these. When it comes to important international affairs, as certain countries gain attention through issues like this, it is prudent to address all important matters. However, in the spirit of your post, again, Yes, I think we all need to support the quest for achieving an honest democratic election in the Ukraine and all countries of the world. -Dino |
respect your position. it's like i agree with you. probably you right saying the nation must be raised before asking for support internationally. One thing you are not getting, if it fails today it might be a piece of Russia soon loosing it's independance and having an Ex Con as the President. Wealthy and mid class ppl they do not want it, same as I do not want it. Today, current Government is supported only by oligarchs and dependant poor people. There is a chance for Ukraine to get rid of CON GOVERNMENT.
/ * also, i'm curious why it's all not smooth but that sharp. May be we do see outer world and still can't get close that makes us angry on our government? It was like that 20 years ago, we were not ready, tons of people here with Soviets in mind. Today we are balancing. */ |
Actually, the situation there is more interesting than I originally thought.
It really looks like a power shift there. Gonna see some detailed news soon. Politics is something I was strongly interested in few years ago, but then I said "fuck it", I almost stopped watching news etc, and I concentraded on the internet business. So I know the general situaion there when it comes to the elections, but haven't been really following the details yet. and please don't call me "mr" :) |
dont get 'mr' wrong :) , sir
|
And I thought rigged elections only happened in the states :1orglaugh
But seriously, stay safe Andrei. |
