So... who is NOT mailing, spamming ?

Seems like everyone and his mother is mailing nowadays.

I kinda feel left out... :(

Am I the ONLY one who isn't spamming?

NaughtyINC 11-22-2004 11:42 PM

there is no money in search engines either, walk away :)

Oh... I knew that all along

Question was about mailing though

And not "if there is money in mailing" either.

I am mainly interested in the overall desperation level among webmasters nowadays :Graucho

Is it really worth it with AOL and M$ initiating all those lawsuits against spammers or are you using opt in lists only?

BigWebRev 11-23-2004 01:02 AM

Jakke PNG 11-23-2004 01:07 AM

I'm not mailing yet, no time.
Although I am collecting mails and a mailer is in place :)

Furious_Female 11-23-2004 01:08 AM

Everyone wants to make a million dollars from spamming now, but the only ones making money are probably the ones selling cracked copies of Dark Mailer. There's old school mailers struggling to make ends meet. If any n00b thinks he/she/it can waltz in and start ballin' out of control in times like this, they are out of their rabid ass minds.

What we have now is a basic case of supply and demand. 4 years ago there wasn't as much saturation as there is now, so yeah people were making money. Now, there's more mailers and less inbox deliveries, fewer surfers joining and so on and so on.

Take a word from the wise, if people are telling you and ACTING like they are making serious bank from mailing, chances are they are full of shit. 97% of them are posers. Always remember, all that glitters isn't gold.

And it's only going to get harder. Surfers are getting "smarter", filters are getting tougher and not to mention, the hand of the law is coming down hard. Think you can set up offshore and have it made? Wrong. It doesn't work like that anymore.

The clock is ticking, within a few years that show will be over. And even if you manage to make anything before you can't do it anymore, there's no guarantee the past won't come back to haunt you.

You're my type of chick :thumbsup
I once almost wrote an entire essay directed at over saturation and the glorification of the mailing world by the media and trolls. People are stupid, and like to talk about shit they know nothing about.

I even included: "*Note: This is not directed at anyone in particular." :1orglaugh

JulianSosa 11-23-2004 01:35 AM

From the looks of my inbox every retard here started mailing. I used to just get mostly valid mails you know the non forged ones that have remove links? Now I get 1000 a day no remove one line of text that read

Fucksakes 11-23-2004 01:36 AM

I don't mail thou I spent many weeks learning all about it.

venus 11-23-2004 01:41 AM

I would not give anyone a class in anything that they will abuse and get themselves in trouble with or get the hammer brought down on the rest of us.

spamming is only for responsible people who are not greedy.
I bulk email, I have since my site started back in 1997, but I do it responsiblly with a very clean list that I put together. I would never use a list that someone else gave me, plus its auto opt out and all my header info is real.

Bulk email i s a tool, if anyone thinks its the money machine, then they do not need to do it.

Exactly!

For example the dude in NC who was mailing into AOL that was in the news recently. All the trolls and their grandmas start coming out of the woodworks with dollar signs in their eyes with the mentality "Hell yeah I'll do 9 years in prison for $24 million." Good God they are sooooo ignorant. They seem to be under the impression that you can fire up a copy of DM and make a gazillion bucks over the weekend. Way to go media... way to make a saturation problem worse. :thumbsup

But very few listen to reason, they have selective comprehension. Maybe this is simple enough for some to understand: Too many chiefs, not enough indians.

Actually making money from mailing isn't hard. Getting paid is :)

You gotta select the good sponsors

Ahh another good point.

Without mentioning names, I know 2 people that were invited to mail by a popular adult sponsor last December while Paris Hilton was hot. They were getting 600-700 sales a DAY, about $100k+ in a week... When it was time to get paid, guess what happened? Termed for "spamming."

Mailing can be one big illusion. You could make $500k a day in your stats and never see a penny of it. And you can't do a damn thing about it, because all sponsors have to do is cry SPAM and you are shit out of luck.

solonline 11-23-2004 02:34 AM

we mail to our own list , but it is not half as effective as what it was 2 years ago. On tracking we only hit around 25 percent click throughs, and that is with a lot of work going into how the email is formated, words etc. We are fetish and so typicially have a more responsive reaction to our emails as they are targeted at a small group. But still as I said not as effective as it used to be.
We concentrate more now on mini free sites, we going to be launching some ideas which will allow us to advertise to the user online, without the need to mail shot.

Mailings are a dying tool, and they are better ways these days to get your message out. My junk mail folder is full everyday with crap that I never read. A waste of time and KBS for both ends.

Soon as we have our other ideas in place we pulling the list.

:2 cents:

You just did begin.

"Virginia Attorney General Jerry Kilgore said that Jeremy Jaynes of Raleigh,NC, was found guilty under a Virginia state law that sets limits on the number of emails marketers can send in a given time period and prohibits them from using fake email addresses. "

Yea what an anti scam law... and that was just the first link I randomly clicked. The only BS in this thread is the stuff your spweing.

Theres lots of laws jsut like that in almost every state. In my sate the guy faces JAIL time and it has nothing to do with "scamming" the charges are for mass mailing and fake return addresses.

Yngwie 11-23-2004 03:42 AM

I have not done any mailing in the last 8 years (since I started). I don't care if some people made or still make a killing from spamming. All I know is spammers piss me the fuck off.. Spamming my webmaster@ accounts with vicodin, dick enlargement shit, viagra, fake rolex shit, breast enlargment, porn and the list goes on.. Thanx to mozilla Thunderbird most of these fucks will be sent straight to the trash can.. Change the subject of the email or the body of the email all you want cuz it won't do shit.

And you really should find a way to hide you ref codes in your spam. I have a text file somewhere on my pc with all the links and refcodes in the spam I get..... Spam away, make my day lol

I'm not even gonna bother becasue I know trying to tell a spammer what hes doing is dumb is like trying to convince somone to stop using an addictive drug.

Do watever you want. I just hope a new law catches you by surprise. They are drafting spam laws all the time.

xclusive 11-23-2004 03:49 AM

I am not a mailer but I'm not against them either my business is just taking me a different route...
