DRM Setup

I'm thinking of getting the MS licenses to be able to encode my own files using DRM.

Can someone confirm if this is correct.

1. Use the Windows Media Rights Manager SDK to encode my media file with the license acquisition url.

2. When someone opens the file, it goes to the license server.

3. The license server then redirects the user to my webpage with the license options. This is done with a window that opens in front of Media Player.

Is this correct?

1) Yes, use the WMRM SDK to encode your media content.

2) During the wrapping process the content will look for the license acq value and open that in the LAW/media player.

3) The media player essentially opens up a mini IE window for the license acq window. However I'd write something else to issue the license rather then redirecting to your site... Or are you doing this for traffic purposes (redirecting?)

Also, you don't have to pop the law window... If you have some form of authentication between the LAW and your site (ie sessions or cookies) you could issue a silent license, and on non-existance of this, then pop the law

However, it gets tricky depending on which player they have and If they have "acquire licenses automatically"

But to save you from hitting your head against the wall, you can write a script to determine wether the POST value silent is true or false;-)

I am looking to generate some traffic with this. Just wanted to make sure I had things clear in my mind before I fork over the cash for certificates.

thx

If thats the case, just another FYI. SP2 does work on the LAW window... no more force popping windows if they have sp2=\

I've got SP2 on my machine. One of the video files that I double clicked spawned and IE window to a website for license.

Any thoughts how that would be done...

if its an ugly gold and blue page, that's the default page that microsoft has built in that tells you that you need the latest windows media player... if its something else, host up the file and I'll tell you how. could just be sp2 popup code in the law window...

Do you have an ICQ number I can reach you at?

I've deleted the file, but I'm going to see if I can find it again.

thx

Are you just trying to protect your WMV ASF files from being leeched?

If so, I have the solution for you.

We do license clearing for a number of major content owners in all markets, particularly the mainstream music market and of those, most have more than adequate resources to build their own solution. So, why don't they?

Having a fully managed system within a robust environment and 24/7 support are critical requirements for mission critical companies. Moreover, being part of an aggregated system that has been thoroughly tested reduces their cost and risk.

I'd look into to contacting a Windows Media Rights Management partner and outsourcing this as well.
