I'm going to buy a new computer today...

From Best Buy or CompUSA, whoever has a better deal. What should I get? What would YOU buy if you had to buy a machine off the shelf in the next 2 hours?

Dawgy 11-21-2004 12:55 PM

www.apple.com/switch

JakeR 11-21-2004 12:56 PM

why would you buy a comp. from a retail shop?

Because I have an anxiety issue with waiting for shit in the mail.. No way I'm going to spend that kind of money just to wait a week to get anything. I need instant gratification with tech stuff.

Jesus. Don't buy a store bought computer.

Find one friend who knows anything about computers who can put together basic components and go to www.newegg.com and pay about 1/2 price for something that will perform about 10 times better than a shitty store bought computer.

See my reply above, I want it today. I have looked at newegg and tigerdirect for weeks, I know what is out there and I know I can save a little and build it myself, I just can't wait for it...lol TigerDirect is actually about 45 minutes from my house, but they don't sell stuff out the door anymore, you have to order it and wait for them to ship it.

xclusive 11-21-2004 01:05 PM

Check online at bestbuy.com and then you can order what you want and they will have it ready for you too pick up in store...

Well, if you want to pay 2 or 3 times more because you can't wait a week then go for it. :1orglaugh

2-3 is a little much I think. From what I have looked at for a couple of weeks, I will pay about 1/4 by buying in the store. Also, my time in putting it together would make that 25% savings go away.

Rantan 11-21-2004 01:10 PM

dont not go to compUSA!!!..they will rape you so bad you'll wish you never had an ass...

Project-Shadow 11-21-2004 01:13 PM

Try ebay, alot of sellers are companies that specialise in creating computers and wont rape you. They'll also give you warentee's.. don't buy a store-bought computer unless you want to throw your money down the drain.

SmokeyTheBear 11-21-2004 01:14 PM

Buy it from best buy.

Your right , you can save money using newegg , but dont bother unless your on welfare or have 8 kids. ( or have 8 kids on welfare )

Buy it from a store , if it don't work take it back and yell.

The 2 weeks of paranoid waiting isn't worth it, the U.P.S. guy will show up after 3 weeks and toss your new computer onto your door and break the thing..

This being said , i have bought almost all my computers from newegg because i wasn't in any hurry.

1 had a dead mobo , took a week to get another sent back , a piss-off , but understandable.

Lots of computer parts come fucked up straight from the factory.

I think i remember something about new pentium chips a few years ago having a 40% failure rate.

I think Best Buy is the answer. I have bought my last 3 Sony's from them, and never had a problem. :)

Best Buy doesn't sell Mac. CompUSA does :Graucho

Vitasoy 11-21-2004 01:25 PM

I think buying from local stores is a better idea. Even better if you build your own from scratch. Shouldn't take more then a few hours. Plus you get what you want specs wise and it's more easier to upgrade. ( If you plan on installing more hds and other upgrades.)

sickkittens 11-21-2004 01:45 PM

Have you checked out Dell.com? I hear their delivery time is usually fast plus they're alot cheaper than Best Buy. :2 cents:

Check out Ben's Bargains for the deals going on now. :thumbsup
