This movie is a masterpiece, but very few actually have a clue.

It took me a few views to notice the Masonic "like" towels in the bathroom.

There are so many Masonic symbols and references in that movie that I can't count them all.

The Under the Rainbow shop near the costume factory...does anyone get that reference?

In Masonry you have the Freemasons, Eastern star (for wives of Masons) and the Rainbow Girls for the daughters of Masons. The conspiracy is that the Rainbow girls were once being brainwashed and used to tempt politicians into sex of which the secretly taped footage of these prestiges men was used against them in blackmail. Most of the Raibow Girls are in their early teens.

Thats why at first the shop owner finding his daughter screwing the two asians pissed him off. Next thing you know hes pimping her out. etc,

I could explain every element to EWS but I don't want to ruin the thing for those who like to figure things out for themselves.

:)

quiet 11-21-2004 05:24 AM

absolutely agreed. there is is such an illuminati quality to this film. an amazing piece of art.

great movie

eldominik 11-21-2004 08:03 AM

Yes, only a few people really understand this movie.

Vendot 11-21-2004 08:14 AM

Granted ive probably not picked up all the clues and references but I always loved this movie for its long scenes and the slow contemplative pace that is typical of Stanley Kubrick's direction.

Shame its his last movie and I think it was unfairly panned by the critics but its actually great to watch. Mind you, I still prefer one of his other great movies "The Shining" which itself has lots of hidden clues and references to a smaller sub story.

LadyMischief 11-21-2004 08:17 AM

Too bad Tom Cruise is the shiitest actor who ever lived. Nicole Kidman's boobies made that whole movie.. MMM... I liked the movie on it's own merits as well, but I can't stand Cruise.

i thought he was absolutely great in this movie, his best role. i especially appreciate how they don't try to hide his shortness.

Cassie 11-21-2004 08:19 AM

it was the beginning of the end of their relationship...uncensored, on screen.

Satisfaction 11-21-2004 08:37 AM

yeh i didnt rate it too highly..

MattO 11-21-2004 08:58 AM

I dug the film but the parts of the score with the single piano notes drove me a bit batty

It's the closest I've seen him come to true acting, but you have to admit, he's not very convincing :)

Yeah, the keyboard parts during the sex party were lame too. Decent movie, but there was lots that bored me. All the fantasy black and white scenes for instance. The 40 minute pot-fight sequence.

bizmak 11-21-2004 09:51 AM

yup, that's a great film.

xclusive 11-21-2004 09:54 AM

The critics hated it and when they hate amovie i usually like it. The craftmanship of the story was great...Not to mention nicole kidman was a nice thing to see as always...

Basic_man 11-21-2004 09:54 AM

Never watched it.. I'll probably rent it sometime !

Ross 11-21-2004 10:01 AM

Yep very good movie indeed.

Only saw it twice tho, I have it on DVD. Might watch it tonight actually!

ytcracker 11-21-2004 11:27 AM

very good movie.

there's still a lot of things i don't fully understand about the movie but it doesn't stop me from watching it. one day i will reach an epiphany and it will all click and the meaning of the universe will slide into focus.

ImLost 11-21-2004 11:29 AM

never seen it

Vitasoy 11-21-2004 11:32 AM

First time I've seen nicole nude. Nice flick... I always wondered if there was a secret society. ::

chupachups 11-21-2004 11:34 AM

It´s absolutely fantastic and Shotakovich´s Jazz Suite accounts for 25% of that.

Paul Waters 11-21-2004 01:08 PM

I am a great fan of Kubrick's work.

And EWS is a great movie, worthy of his name.

I first saw it in a theatre, with a lovely submissive woman, who I brought to orgasm a number of times...

After the movie, over dinner, we discussed the masonic allusions. She caught the references... I listened...

Then we went back to her place. :)

Ordo 11-23-2004 05:13 AM

Here is another tip,
when you watch the movie, pay very close attention to the color theme in each.

Each color themse has a very deep meaning.

The whole film and virutally every second in it was very carefully planned and executed in such a way that only Kubrick could have pulled off.

If you were a Freemason, a lot more of this film would make sense to you...

TurboTrucker 11-23-2004 05:24 AM

That movie bored me to tears.

agreed:thumbsup Everytime I catch it on TV I have to watch...

Major (Tom) 11-23-2004 06:12 AM

I remember watching it with my girlfriend and saying to her "wow, something is really allegorical here.. There is a latent message he's trying to relay, lets watch it again" She just thought it was weird and had no allegory at all. Guess she was wrong.

C_U_Next_Tuesday 11-23-2004 06:34 AM

my hubby ruined the movie for me... when we tried watching it together he kept mentioning the part he "didnt" watch..like I am suppose to believe he turned off the movie at the part where they show a fuck load of beautiful tall perfectly bodied women having sex ..that man is anal about hiding shit from me..:1orglaugh

I tried to stay interested enough to watch it again.. but it really bored the hell out of me.

drctfiesta 11-23-2004 07:06 AM

All these people ranting about some idiot's movie while he was high on crack.
Another example of why we can't let drug induced liberals in power :2 cents:

fr33s3x 11-23-2004 07:07 AM

yea, nice movie

JUSTB 11-23-2004 07:10 AM

I have been wanting to watch it again ever since I read Angels and Demons. I think HBO has it back in rotation right now.

kenny 11-23-2004 08:11 AM

Do you have the unaltered version ?

DesignWise 11-23-2004 08:13 AM

When I saw this thread I decided to grab and watch the DVD.

I consider myself a film buff and all I can say is I was disappointed. As always he is good at building up suspense and drawing your interest into what your seeing, but frankly the movie was a let down. I would describe this movie as a gilded shell. Yea its nice that it can draw you in.... but once it has you it does not deliver.

The movie reminded me of THX 1138 both did the same thing IMO.

All the crap people read into this movie is just that.... pretentious crap created by the viewers own mind not by what actually went on during the film.

I've read people online saying things like the movie includes a test for the audience and that if you don't like it you didn't get it.... PLEASE. Anyone who buys into crap like that needs to read the electric acid kool-aid test.

6/10 simply for the visual quality and the success of a few suspenseful scenes (the HIV scene pops to mind)

I bet some of the symbols you see mean somthing entirely different to someone else. :2 cents:

Skimming the net just now I see lots of different explinations for the same scenes.

great film... a masterpiece

Sarah_Jayne 11-24-2004 05:04 AM

A friend of mine was suppose to play the young girl in the movie. She was signed on and living in a hotel at the studio's exprense getting ready to shoot it when the studio decided the roll needed to be American. She will tell that story everytime she has too much to drink...her big moment lost.

This is going right over the head of about 95% of posters here.

Symbolism? Subtext?

Three acts. Explosions. One liners.

That's what people understand.
