With the tragic events of last week and the Winter Olympics being a few months away will they proceed?

They had better go on. There has to be a point where you stop being afraid, and resume with your life. I think that security will be beefed up big time, but it should continue.

A report on our news yesterday said its going ahead. For exactly the reason above about having to stop being afraid.
One of the men in charge said they are just trying to sort out how to do security. From what he said the Olympic comitte have been worried for years about someone crashing an airplane into a stadium durring the games. Guess after the bomb in Atlanta they have been jumpy. As a life-long fan of the Olympics (any Olympics), I can honestly say that if the muslim world were to put their guns down more often and take up track & field, high-jump, skiing or bob-sledding (they have snow in their mountains too!), the world would be a much better place for them AND us.
They could put their billions of oil revenue into actally feeding their people and supporting sports programs, maybe they'd win a fucking medal more often. This is one way that Russia has shown up it's rival the USA over the years, by beating western athletes. It's a way for the muslem world to earn more respect in a peaceful way, yet they would rather spend their time chasing around their deserts on their war-camels shooting off their pop-guns at each other and threatening their neighboring countries with missile attacks.
