Watching it now i just heard titties, ass, dick, mother fucker all in like 2 minutes:1orglaugh

How can they get away with that on cable tv?

GatorB 11-20-2004 11:46 PM

Ask HBO.

Rictor 11-20-2004 11:48 PM

They've been doing it for like a year now. The FCC is actually threatening to crack down on cable and satellite radio.

It's not a publicly accessible channel.

Furious_Female 11-20-2004 11:56 PM

If I'm not mistaken, I believe networks are allowed to use most profanity within context, but choose not to because of sponsor "moral" issues. I'm not sure though.

I do know Comedy Central is part of a premium package for cable/sattelite and not included in basic service, so that might be why also.

Double L 11-20-2004 11:57 PM

paid subscription vs an "over the air" free channel... meaning any TV channel that's free with an antanae gets far more strict regulations.

Chris 11-20-2004 11:57 PM

haha im watching queens of comedy aswell

funny shit

i asked my girl if she knew why they could do it ( she used to work for a cable company ) and she said as long as it is past 10:30 with proper ratings they can use any language they want on cable

In some areas HBO is included in Basic service and with direct hookups. So it is possible.

You can pay for the spice and playboy channels on cable also.

Money talks, in a sense. If you pay to hear profanity, who's gonna stop ya?

clueless 11-21-2004 12:16 AM

There are just some tv networks that are not as sensitive as the other networks are in regards with foul words. UNFORTUNATELY!!!:(

detoxed 11-21-2004 12:21 AM

After 10pm the rules change

And YOU are in the adult biz?

Thurbs 11-21-2004 02:48 AM

go comedy central, i love their hidden stash movies.

fl_prn_str 11-21-2004 04:48 AM

Comedy Central shows this programming after 11 pm on the west coast (Pacific Time Zone)....mighty late in ETZ. Anything after this time period is not too scrutinized (within standard reasoning naturally?so they aint gonna show porn) since they believe that all children are in bed by then.

DeadFidel 11-21-2004 05:48 AM

The double standards really do suck. In Saving private Ryan they said "fuck" 28 times on prime time.

Can imagine some 13 year old jerking off to the nude scenes in Schindler's List?:Graucho :(

They can threaten all they want but they do not have the authority to do it unless new laws are passed. The FCC is not allowed to regulate cable TV.

That's bullshit. HBO is a subscription service and they don't get away their service for free.

that's what I was thinking

CamChicks 11-21-2004 03:53 PM

The FCC only has the authority to regulate the public airwaves. That's only the old networks like ABC, NBC, CBS, etc - stuff anyone can get for free over an antenna. Those channels (and radio) operate on limited available frequencies and permission to broadcast is granted by the government. That's why they must comply with government rules or risk having their license taken away. Cable TV enters your home via privately owned underground networks, and therefore is not subject to regulation. The only censorship on any cable channel (like Comedy Central) is voluntary self-censhorhip so as not to offend advertisers or get dropped from the private providers packages (Comcast, COX, etc) There is no legal difference between Comedy Central and HBO. There are no laws about time of day or anything like that for cable TV. It's totally up to the private companies what they show. If a regular cable channel wanted to run hardcore porn and beheadings 24/7, there's nothing the FCC could do about it. Yes, some christian groups are trying to influence legislation to gain control over media they have no rational right to, but that's unlikely to be successful because the government cannot make the same arguements against privately owned networks people must pay to subscribe to.
