Servers are going down!!!

A new worm, being called w32.nimda.amm, is being sent around via email. The attachment is called README.EXE and comes as a MIME-type of "audio/x-wav" together with some html parts. There appears to be no text in this message when it is displayed by Outlook when in Auto-Preview mode (always a good indication there's something not quite right with an email.) DO NOT CLICK ON IT TO OPEN!! Simply delete the email.

This Denial of Service Attack is propogating across the entire Internet at breakneck speed. It is affecting most ALL Internet connectivity providers due to the voluminous requests being reflected across various networks. Therefore routers and switches are being stressed, thus causing major network delays across all networks.

Check out how bad it is right now by visiting http://www.internettrafficreport.com

Australians are safe for the time being from being infected by the latest worm, which is spreading fast throughout the world just five hours after being released.

Ya Hooo !!!

Or am I counting the eggs.

"Once a server is infected, the worm continues to scan for other vulnerable computers. In addition, the program takes control of the part of Microsoft's IIS software that delivers Web pages, allowing the virus to trump a request for any page--even invalid requests--and instead return a page infected with the virus."

"Australians are safe for the time being from being infected by the latest worm,"

How are Australians safe? Unless they don't use NT.. if it's connected to the net... It's vulnerable until patched. :P

MS software and its security holes... The circus goes on *sigh* http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/frown.gif

All your Microsoft software are belong to Nimda

Expect to see your inbox flooded with the virus. I've already received about 20 copies in my inbox -- each one immediately asks me if I want to run the attachement. Web sites running Microsoft IIS can also be infected, using similar vulnerabilities to what Code Red used. Browsing an infected web site, Microsoft Internet Explorer will ask you to run some software -- no prizes for guessing what that software contains.

An infected computer will spread itself to personal computers through email and to IIS web servers with random IP scans. It also adds hidden shares to the C drive.

The laws of nature have shown that for a given ecosystem, a lack of diversity is a dangerous proposition. Indeed, court rulings have shown that Microsoft abused their monopoly. But if Nimda proves anything, it will be that Microsoft's monopoly -- abused or not -- is dangerous for the greater IT community.

Yep, and a look at the laws of economics will show that it's the nature of monopoly to rip customers off and provide inferior products/services.

There's a reason the anti-trust laws were instituted--to protect the customer. http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/wink.gif
