Thats what I was gonna say... btw, theres no way to compare ISPrime to Rackshack, theyre two differant things. If youre seriously asking this question looking for an answer, you should rethink what your needs are first. |

This is how I determine what ISP to use:
think of the worst case scenario you could possibly have with that company, then make it happen and see how they act. Unfortunately this is a bad example because I've never delt with isprime and have done tens of thousands of dollars of business with ev1. I have also filed several legal documents against ev1 and charged back over $4,000 through my card company. Everyone can match bandwidth and server specs, personally I'd go with whoever can give you the most honest, candid and fastest support. but only if it's worth the extra $$ you pay in server costs. Theres a billion articles on the net of how to find a good solid hosting company - go read them. |
Rackshack doesn't exist anymore, just EV1 and they provide totally different services.
|
i like ev1 - they were always extremely fast and helpful to me. and after having a quick look i saw that i would have to pay at isprime at least 4 times of what i have to pay at ev1. :2 cents:
|
I like ev1 too.
|
The difference is that *I* would host at ISPrime and you could not pay me enough to host at Rackshack again.
Their support staff is incompetant, their network is inferior, and they lie. While there, we experienced a fire on the transformer that feeds the power to the building, someone tripped over our network cable, and THREE WEEKS of outage, despite our monitoring system sending repeated emails every couple minutes to support and headsurfer. These went ignored, as did our outage. I do not believe that this would EVER happen at ISPrime. Of course, it's your call, but I know what my hosting is worth. |

Given that, I'd say ev1 is a winner. |
Wolfy, you really can't compare ev1 & isprime that way. That's like saying "Casio sells more watches than Breitling or Rolex, Casio must be better"
If I could afford it, I'd host with isprime anytime! :thumbsup |

huge traffic. Ev1 can't manage high bandwidth, period. Do you think people pay hard earned money to established hosting companies just for fun ? :) |
actually I made a mistake - I use theplanet, they are a sister company that provides a similar service (managed hosted blah) - my question was aimed towards that, sorry for the confusion.

ev1 rocks. I have two servers there. ISPrime is great if you need managed hosting. I don't so why pay for it? I have been at ev1 for years and don't plan on moving.
|
I use ev1 exclusively, and would recommend them IF you don't mind getting your hands dirty. Chances are, you will need to tweak the system, httpd.conf, any other config files to match your type of content and traffic.
Or you can do like me, and go onto their forum forum.ev1servers.net, and simply hire a tech to manage your server. This still saves me tons over the competition, and my server is upgraded with all the newest patches every 2 weeks. And to those who say EV1 can't handle the traffic... Bull shit. I have a few of older Celeron 1300's with 512 mb ram, and even these boxes perform great. These boxes never crash, the load generally stays below .08, and I am pumping out just shy of the maximum monthly bandwidth allowed ... I'm at about 900 to 975 gigs per month, per server. And at just over $100 per month per server...I'm singing all the way to the bank. Again, it's all about tweaking the server for your specific load demands. |
Do you like things getting done within 5 minutes of an email request, or 30 seconds after you send an ICQ or AIM to their live support? If you want the above, go with ISPrime.
If you like managing your server yourself, and are capable with no help and want to save money, then go with rackshack. Thats the difference. I'll just point out, many of the largest affiliate programs host with ISPrime. That should say enough. |
Dont forget that EV1 has NO SLA on uptime.
|
Go with FoundryNap or ISprime you will get great service either way...

It's called support and uptime
|
I use EV1 and the Planet, both generally great with huge networks and good uptime. Have boxes with both there for years with only a couple incidents.
Network is great and handled simulataneous galleries on hun and sleazydream and others that sent 200K movie gallery customers in 1 day to 1 server, no problem. The fire incident where a transformer in the parking lot or wherever of EV1 blew up was actually good testimony to EV1 - 99% of customers, including me, never went down event though they were on generators for weeks. Downside is, no real support. But they tell you that when you sign up, some people just can't understand "self managed". Also you are just a number there unless you have 20 boxes. And the network, while good, is not exactly the primo badwidth that bangbus uses that makes you think you are in the same room with the noc. But overall, I give EV1 and TP at least a B+ if you know exactly what you are doing. |
