My Latest Addiction ...... Audio Books!

Shit - I think I'm addicted to Audio Books. Nothing like having someone read you a book :1orglaugh

Found this cool place online - cheapest audio books I've found and you can download them right into your computer.

Sweeeeeeeeeeet!

Audible.com

oh man, they're awesome.
you drive around listening to them, and in a long trip, you have "read" a couple of books without realizing it.
I love them

i might join audible.com, what do you do after you join for 14.95 a month you get to burn them to CD or something?

Even better, go to the library and get all of the free audio books you want. I've listened to countless books that I would have NEVER read by myself. I've listened to Uncle Tom's Cabin, The Iliad, Moby Dick, Dracula, Don Quixote, and some Shakespeare books.

And they're great for driving.

I don't have a membership there although I have purchased a few of their audio books. I downloaded my books directly into my itunes and from there I can burn them to CD. You can also download their software and use it if you don't have itunes installed. If you do have itunes, you'll have to download a small plugin.

Most books come in several different qualities (mp3, FM, AM) so you can download whichever quality you prefer. I have purchased a few books that are like 9 hours - so I used the lowest quality so that I could burn them to fewer CDs.

audible rocks...i signed up with a joint account with my mother and we each pick a book each time and then share them. I then listen to the books while I work. I just make sure to select the unabridged versions since I hate it when they take things out.

Two weeks ago I purchased the entire Stephen King "Dark Tower" series on CD. I'm listening to it now, every time I drive somewhere. Even around town you'll be surprised how much time you really spend in the car.

This whole series is almost 200 hours, though. I'll be listening for awhile. :)

There is nothing like a good audio book to pass the time...

kmanrox 11-20-2004 01:19 PM

I love audio books. I listen to them a lot when I'm sitting here working. Passes the time great. Right now I'm listening to the lord of the rings books. Starting with the hobbit and when done will move onto the three lord of the rings books.

I'm checking this out for sure.

One thing though, while I work I always need to have music on in the background just for noise. I usually don't pay any attention though and miss the songs completely. How can you guys listen to books while working and still soak them in?
