The fun part will come when we all get hit with chargebacks from the hacked cards.

The banks are sloppy and we pay for it.

You have a link for this? Other than the normal email scams I have noticed nothing unusual with my accounts.

Furious_Male 11-19-2004 06:27 PM

Washington Mutual is the biggest cluster fuck of a bank I have ever worked with in my life.

Washington Mutual, the nation's largest thrift, said Thursday that some of its debit-card customers were among the victims of a nationwide electronic heist.

The Seattle-based thrift and fourth-largest financial institution in Florida said it began notifying an undisclosed number of customers last week that their Visa Check Cards would be replaced.

Washington Mutual is the second major U.S. financial institution to acknowledge that its customers' card numbers may have been stolen from an as-yet unidentified national retailer.

SunTrust, the largest bank in Central Florida and third largest in Florida, began informing affected customers earlier this month. The Atlanta-based bank said a fraction of its 1.8 million debit-card users had their numbers potentially compromised.

Washington Mutual also downplayed the number of card holders involved.

"Overall, it's not a large number of customers relative to the size of our customer base," spokeswoman Libby Hutchinson said. "But we have taken quick, precautionary action to protect the customers who were affected."

The thrift told customers the theft occurred in the unidentified merchant's computer system, which was processing its Visa ATM/Check Card transactions.

no shit meathead, who keeps over 100k in a single account? Noone I know. Carry on douchebag:thumbsup

rowan 11-19-2004 08:15 PM

Is a Visa Check like a Visa Debit? It has a CC number but the funds come immediately out of your normal account, instead of it being a credit-pay cycle.

If it's linked like that then some bad shit could happen with stolen numbers. My Visa Debit card has NO daily limit, which means that if there's $50k in the account you can clean that out as fast as your retailer can swipe the card.
