It's not louder, it just pushes the power tube distortion a bit more. I prefer the nice break-up you get at around 5 on an old Marshall plugged in a vintage 4X12 Celestion cabinet with greenbacks. Add a Gibson with late 50's early 60's PAF pick-ups and you're in classic rock heaven. Even a complete hack can sound godly by hitting a few basic power chords.
