oh good lord what is next?

I am trying to have my coffee and get my day started, watching the Today Show like I do every other day... and check THIS shit out........

They are NOW trying to make it against the law to fast forward over the ads on DVD Movies you buy in the stores!!!! So watch it, if this goes thru and you don't watch those damn commercials, you might be going to jail!!

So I pay $20 for a movie now, or more, and I HAVE to sit thru the commercials or I'll be sitting in jail? CHRIST!!! And people wonder why everyone in this country is so uptight and stress ridden.....

Sorry, this one just caught me wrong. What the hell else are they going to do?

Unfortunately this is the way it's going.

Once DVDs are mostly phased out (it won't be long) and we're all ordering our movies broadband, we'll be sitting through even more commercials before we actually get around to watching what we paid for.

Well how in the hell would I know? I just heard this and about died when I did. I have no idea how they will inforce it, or anything, just what they said.

Tam, you know what we're VERY close to?

Pay per view for many more things. I estimate that in 5 years, the Superbowl, World Series, NBA Finals, NHL Finals... they will all be on pay-per-view only.

Soon the only stuff free on TV will be ads, re-runs of old shows, and infomercials.

Yes, and in YOUR scenario, I paid for my TV so I shouldn't ever have to pay for anything I watch on it..... HAHAHAHAHAH NOT the same thing baby.

If I pay for a membership or something on a site online and get pops then I am pissed, but until I pay for it, it's part of the deal and I know it.

BUT I paid for the movie I bought and shouldn't be forced to watch their stupid ads...

Cassie, MY point exactly, with all the starving and abused kids and everything else that is really bad in this world, they are mad because I don't watch ads on a damn DVD. I still dont understand how the TV networks get away with charing companys for commercials then turning around and charging viewers for cable to watch those commercials.. If i have to pay $50/mo. I dont want to pay for commercials.. If I throw an antenna on my roof and get ABC/CBS/NBC for free.. then fuckit, commercials are the price I pay..

and what those stupid channel packages.. I dont want the golf channel. the god channel. the home shopping network.. why the fuck should I have to pay for them? Thats like going to the store for milk and being told you have to buy a fucking tomato if you want to walk out the door with your gallon of milk.

we are an entertainment based society. companies know we will watch tv, buy dvd's, etc... and they will continue to stick it to us.

i am as guilty as everyone else. i just ordered my DVR box from comcast 10 mins ago which upped my bill 10.00 more a month.

The cable company has to charge us for the actual cable and service. Luckily with digital cable in my area now we get to pick specific channels. but you pay more in the long run though so it's not much better. We pay $2.50 per channel now.

Quite frankly, I was under the impression that when you bought DVD's there was not to be any of that shit- Rentals, perhaps I could tolerate it, but owning them is a different story. When I first starting buying them there were no commercials and now they are full of them.

Remember back in the day when you went to theatre's to see movies? They only showed trailors, now you have to sit through 15 extra mins., of commercials for AMEX and the like. I refuse to go now.

Boy, I couldn't do that... it would cost me a bloody fortune. We have a ton of channels and 5 people in my house with all different ideas of what is good to watch on TV. Of all my channels, we probably watch about half of them at LEAST, if not a lot more. So that would cost me a fortune.

I did, however just have my cable shut off and was paying nearly $200 a mont, and now I pay only $94 a month. BUT the majority of that bill is the number of boxes I have to have. I have 3 kids, each with a box, my living room and my bedroom..... so that is where most of my satellite bill is.

I don't mind the commercials on TV at all, I expect that. But when I pay for a damn movie, shove those commercials up someone's ass........ NOT mine!

that's bad enough, but imagine this, notice how many popular movies have scenes where sneaker, drink and car logos are zoomed in on for a split second here and there?

there was an article yesterday about tivo launching popup ads when you try to fast forward commercials too. Said its supposed to start happening next spring, im waiting to see how it goes before i cancel my subscription
