PS Cropping Question
 

I want to crop a series of images so that I

1) retain the existing aspect
2) reduce them so they all end up the same size

Is there an easy way to do this? The cropping seems the tricky part.

I guess you use actions for this? Then just use % in the picture size.

The part that I am stuck on is maintaining the aspect ratio, while cropping a varying size piece from one image to the next.

If you do not want the 'models' to end up with heads that look like footballs;

hold the SHIFT-key down.

This will ensure the aspect is locked or constrained.

slight correction -- not enough coffee, or too much dope last night (if that is possible):

When using the crop tool, enter your desired dimensions/size/pixels.

If you are simply shooting for a square thumb, all you need to do is hold down the shift-key.

Actions are OK to use, but I do not use for thumbs ... I take the time to ensure the thumbs look good ... the action tool does not have eyes.

Choose the rectangular marquee tool on the toolbar, change the Style: (top horizontal toolbar) from Normal to Fixed Aspect Ratio and input your Width and Height of the finished size of graphic you want. Start by selecting the marquee tool over the top of the image you want to crop and when happy crop from there. If you require it resized smaller from say a 3000x2000 you can resize it via Image>>Image Size down to your exact output parameters.
