Do people literally live on GFY?

After looking around, I've been noticing a lot of people with usernames that were created in 2004, that not only have more posts than people from 2001-2003, but the only way they could have such a high count is if they literally spent weeks straight on here, just posting and living on the board, rather than doing whatever work they say they do. I understand that GFY provides for a social scene that seems to be lacking on most of the other forums out there. Why do you guys need to spend so much time and effort, making posts about things that probably don't matter much. Like finding a wart on your ass or having these huge fights with a scam artist that you shouldn't have dealt with in the first place? I don't consider myself an elder on this board, but with all the shit people spew when posting stat screenshots and whoring out cookie cutter affiliate sponsored signatures, when the hell do you find time to spam the world and promote products/services anyhow?

I know this idea probably won't be considered, but shouldn't there be some sort of information system that limits new users to how many threads they can partake in? I think it would limit scammers from making bullshit posts about some great new site or service they offer. It would also limit people from making a billion posts to make themselves seem reputable because of their false high participation posting level. People wouldn't be able to waste 100 posts on some silly fight that could be solved in a simple ICQ conversation. Overall, it would give this board the type of resource that the industry needs. Just a thought...

:2 cents:

its not too hard, you come on for 10 mins and can make like 25 posts on just first page, then leave for 1 hour and come back and all new posts are there, post for 10 mins and make like 20 posts. Repeat.

But what do you get out of it?

beergood 11-16-2004 10:28 PM

I don't understand it either. GFY is what I do when I've read all the news and don't have shit to do or need a break.

SomeCreep 11-16-2004 10:30 PM

I've noticed many people spend more time posting on this board than actually working as a webmaster.

Probably around $200 a month for his signature, look at the bottom of his post.

As for what he posts at that rate and it's relevance, well that's another story.

For people like me GFY still makes me money, for others. Well $200 is a lot of money. :1orglaugh

So the jokes about "congrats for making more than $40k this year, you are now in the top 2% of GFY" are probably true?

Spunky 11-16-2004 10:31 PM

You also tend to notice that they fly TCG sigs..Not knocking TCG but they pay per post and either these dudes are broke assed surfers or they don't make shit in this industry at all..Post count doesn't mean shit anyways..I find it wierd also that a few dudes with over 20k posts in less than a year actually have the time if they do work.

Post count can be very misleading. There are many posters on this with 20,000+ posts making millions per year. There are also posters with under 1000 posts making the same. Postcount should not be used to imply anything but how many times one has posted on this board.

Well I mentioned it because when I would get email requests for services people would always throw that into the request.. That the amount of posts meant you weren't just a new guy on the block.

Doctor Dre 11-16-2004 10:39 PM

My sig money is probably as good as average american icome ... But I make a shitload more money in the biz too :P
