Broadcast news outlets are reporting that Secretary of State Colin Powell has resigned from President George W. Bush's cabinet.

He has said that he will stay on until his replacement is found, CNN reported. So his leaving will not be immediate.

its a courtesy resignation and its jsut normal for a cabinet officer

think he'll run for prez in 2008? he was a possibility like 8 years ago.

He's probably the most moderate voice in the cabinet.

He was one of the few moderate voices in the administration. Chances are, the stuff you don't like him for is when he is doing his job as the president's mouth piece. He was able to keep Bush from making completely stupid international mistakes rather then mostly stupid international mistakes. Powell was the reason Bush went to the UN at all before the invasion of Iraq. I doubt we'll get someone as moderate as him.

I'm sure he'll be joining the The Carlyle Group.

I'd also rate Colin Powell as one of the very rare people around the Whitehouse that actually have some honor and character.

He is the *real thing* that did walk the walk and there is little doubt he has used that experience in his current post, - despite that it may have caused him to wince more than once.

Better judgement says he is better off out of the Whitehouse, but he tolerated it well and was a credit to the US.

I'm not a rep or even a conservative, but I think this equation is generally untrue these days. To perpetuate that republicans are racist is itself a prejudiced statement.

I was referring to this administration. Not the entire Republican party.

Colin Powell went from being my favorite choice for president to a lackey Uncle Tom who let dumber people around him control his destiny. He should have resigned before the Iraq War as was implied in the Woodward book to save face.

It's a hard decision for him to make. But the most intelligent one he has done so far. It's a question of working alongside with person you don't feel comfortable enough. And whose morals and values that are totally different from yours.

I guess his morals could only be compromised so much..
