The bitching about irrelavant "what ifs", so-called "innocent" bystanders... and on and on and on... amazes me.

Sure. Okay. So it's very likely that Bin Laden has some weapons. His entire fanatical cult can't be comprised ONLY of sheep. Well so what. He will strike back harder? Please. Open your fucking eyes. Have you seen the US hardware lately? Have you ever seen our warplanes? Our Apaches? Our destroyers and carriers? Ever seen a Patriot cruise missile? I don't give a fuck what Bin Laden has. It simply does not compare.

We should not go to war? Are we going to send Rosco P. Coaltrain and Boss Hogg over to deal with this then? Please offer up some other substantial and realistic solution. Until then, shut the fuck up.

All the "innocent" people? Maybe there are a few. You know what? They should be rising up and overthrowing there fuckin' oppresive dictators then. This shit has gone on long enough. If they can't take out the trash, we will. End of story.

Something else Bin Laden and other fucks in this world probably don't take into account: Our people don't do our fighting out of fear of retribution if they don't. Our military is comprised of people that genuinely, honestly, and voluntarily WANT to kick ass.

And that is why we are so damn good at it.

All the fucking what ifs and crying and tree hugging makes zero difference. And threatening more terrorist bullshit as their wishful thinking "revenge" will only piss us off more. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, the US is not a country you want to anger.

That's not patriotism talking. It's a fucking fact.

Problem with this idea of war (against, say, Afghanistan) is it doesn't seem to affect the folks who deserve it. Look at Iraq. We destroyed the entire infrastructure, causing widespread death, disease and famine among the (mostly) innocent population, and Sadam and his crew lead the same life they always did.

Most Afghans aren't exactly thrilled with the leadership in place. Carpet-bombing Kabul will do nothing but make the average Afghan's life more miserable than it already is, if that's possible.

Dictatorships don't care about the general population. Making the average civilian's life miserable is NO deterrant to these fucks.

Send in special ops, sanction assinations against anyone suspected of being involved in *any* terrorist group with the understanding some innocents will die. Make sure whomever takes over a country after governmental assinations ain't gonna be worse than what was there (see: Iraq).

But simply bombing the fuck out of a country that doesn't give a shit about it's population to begin with ain't gonna do a goddamn thing.

I disagree Tucks. When we swept through Iraq, the Iraqi people... the REAL people... were totally on our side. They fuckin' LOVED us. We gave them food and water and blankets, and Red Cross, and medicine ...

I PERSONALLY passed out every single case of food and bottle of water we were carrying. They were sending their kids out in the street to beg while they were standing back in the shadows, because some were rightfully scared. I went out of my way, as did many others, to go personally over to them, give them a meal and a bottle of water and tell them it was all gonna be good. They ALL wanted Hussein brought down.

THIS is what using force accomplishes. The people aren't stupid. They may not be at college level, but they know their leader is an asshole. Bomb the fuck out of their country enough and sooner or later they are gonna get sick and damn tired of it and take that fuck down. They know we are fighting FOR them. Not against them.

This is ALSO a part of every single soldiers job. To make damn sure that innocent people are helped along the way. Because if they didn't exist, then there's no point.

I've no doubt the military was concerned about the Iraqi's during the Gulf War. But certainly you'd agree that Sadam and his top supporters have lead a lifestyle roughly comparable to pre-war days, while average citizens there have seen immeasurable misery and suffering.

Your point about prodding the population to overthrow the dictatorships is true, but the U.S. has tried this approach in the past and it hasn't been successful.

It just seems as though folks are hoping for bombings and missles so they can visually see revenge take place. If Bush decides that's the way to go - I'm all for it. I've got confidence in the guy.

My preference, however, would be for massive intelligence - maybe months worth - to pinpoint all these groups, or as many as possible, then unleash hell all at once with special ops, covert assinations, and the like.

Destroy the bulk of it all at once. Then give the CIA permission to kill at will to avoid a rise from reoccurring.

Widespread, blanketed destruction in already impoverished nations just doesn't appeal to me. (But I will confess, if I got to watch CNN footage of Kabul being wiped off the face of the earth, I'd probably smile)
