Ya know, Im sort of confused on this whole Middle East situation...

Could somebody explain to me why they (Israel and Palestine) are fighting? What are they fighting for?
And when did this all start?

Israel is only an excuse that radical Islamists use for their Western hatred I'm afraid. This hatred existed long before 1948 when Israel became a state. For centuries Jews and Christians lived in Arab countries as "dhimmis". Dhimmis lived as second class citizens, paid higher taxes and had limited property rights. It comes down to the belief of the Radicals that Allah must rule the world. For them, Western domination is an insult to God.

I thought Israel took land from the Palestinians after WW2..

much of it surounds an area on the west bank called gaza. If I recall correctly jeruselum is there. the israelies did take land for the palastines when the state of israel was founded. Both sides say that this area, gaza, is their holy land so they fight over it. But this is just an excuse for the current fighting. there have been wars and bloodshed in that part of the world since before recorded history.

There was never a nation called Palestine, only a territory that was previously ruled by the British and before them, Ottoman turks, and before them Arabs, and before them Jews and was called Israel.

There was roughly 55,000 Jews living there at the start of WWII. After the war there was mass emigration of Jews from europe to Palestine. Jews BOUGHT land from Arabs that had been settled there, the "Palestinians".

After a lot of conflict in the area between Jews and Arabs the British drew up territorial agreement giving certain land to Jews and cetain land to Palestinians. This was ratified by the U.N. and Israel became a State in 1948.

The Arabs convinced the Palestinians to leave, because all of the Arab nations were going to attack Israel and take all of the land and give it to the Palestinians. They attacked as soon as Israel officially became a state and to the amazement of the world, they lost. During the first war Israel seized more territory, but so did Jordan and Egypt.

Thus much of the Palestinian's land is now in the hands of Jordan and Egypt. Why don't the Arabs attack them too? I'll tell you why, because they don't give a flying fuck about them. The Palestinians are nothing more than a tool. Practically every Arab country has thrown this lot out. Ah, but the Jews, their mortal enemy must accept them. If the Palestinian's Arab "brothers" cared, Palestinians wouldn't still be in refugee camps in Jordan and Syria, 50 plus years after the first Arab-Israeli war.

Btw, Kuwait threw out 20,000 of them during the Gulf War when AraFART took Sadam's side.

And the fighting has been going on there since the time of Moses. Who by the way was given the land for the Jews by the "Original Owner"

It is the Taliban. The Taliban knows no borders. They are in Afghanistan, they are in Pakistan and they are in other nations.

The average everyday person in Afghanistan is being surpressed and in many cases tortured by the Taliban who took power from the more liberal gov't that went before it.

And this week they KILLED the opposition leader (aka the good guy..the guy the USA wanted to be leader) by rigging a video camera to blow up when he was doing an interview. His death was announced yesterday.

If there was a way for us to take control of the nation and liberate those that are being supressed (and of course kill the terrorists) I would support it with all my might. Sadly, I am sure it would just spark more terrorism against us.

That Afghani northen alliance leader (Massood, or what ever his name was) was no good guy either...just the lesser of two evils. The Russians kinda liked him because he was giving them a buffer area between Taliban controlled areas of Afganistan and the former muslim republics of the USSR (Tadjikistan, etc), but he's just as bad. If the Taliban had managed to get a foothold in those areas as well, we'd have those little countries on the "Bomb Me Now" list as well...I imagine DarkJedi can give a better perspective on this little statement...

Squishy you are right. I should have said he was the good guy relative to what is there now. I didn't mean to suggest that he would have been someone we would have particuarly loved. Just wanted to show that Taliban is not limited to one country and are not supported by everyone in their county.

Osama Bin Laden was trained, armed and finnanced for USA to expell Russians from Afghanistan.
After That, Taliban wants a complete freedom from both countries (USA, Russia) and this is how this started.
About Palestina, it was a territory indeed it was a Uk Colony, like hong kong, that will be free 1 year after the creation of the state of israel.
