Ashcroft: Judges put nation's security at risk
If this admin has its way there will be no judicial system as we know it and there would be no second guessing of their actions.
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/...ges/index.html WASHINGTON (CNN) -- In his first public appearance since submitting his resignation, Attorney General John Ashcroft sharply criticized federal judges Friday for "second guessing" the Bush administration's decisions on handling prisoners captured in the war against terrorism. Without referring to specific adverse rulings on the treatment of detainees or enemy combatants, Ashcroft blasted "activist" judges for encroaching on the powers that he insists belong solely to the president in wartime. "The danger I see here is that intrusive judicial oversight and second-guessing of presidential determinations in these critical areas can put at risk the very security of our nation in a time of war," Ashcroft said. |

1 step forward, 3 steps backwards.
Rinse an repeat until necessary :glugglug |
Using the Patriot Act Ashcroft could call these judges a threat to national security and have them detained indefinitely without access to an attorney and never charge them. Nice direction this country is heading.

It's people like Ashcroft that make you thankful the judicial system is independant, to a degree, of the politicians.
He's actually criticising them for upholding the law. |
This is slowly turning into a dictatorship thank god we have the constitution to protect us...
|
Why the hell do you vote for people who are against everything that makes the US great and who don't give a damn about US laws? Not only that, but they disagree with it and try to work against it.
